Brown with a frothy, off-white head. The rich, toffee aroma with roasted overtones is inviting enough. Taste is bittersweet up front, trending bitter at the back but then lost in a watery finish. An IPA with such a strongly watery texture might feel refreshing, but a “wee heavy”? Feels all wrong.

Keg at DogTap. It pours clear deep ruby - red with a thick, fluffy pale beige head. The aroma is tangy, sweet - sour, raspberry, strawberry, jammy, cherry cola, fizzy cherry cola bottles and a touch of toffee. The taste is initially dry, bitter - sweet, cherry cola, fuzzy cherry cola bottles, brown bread, touch of candy cane, dryness, bitterness, toasty oak, nutty and wood with a drying, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Quite like this actually. Good balance. Sounds sweet, but isn't.

330ml can. Cloudy, reddish, brown colour with average, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Slightly toasty, mellow, caramel malty and slightly fruity, hoppy aroma, hints of dried fruit, a touch of baked apple, whiffs of cinnamon. Taste is minimally dry, slightly toasty, mellow, caramel malty, minimally fruity hoppy, diluted hints of toffee, baked apple, dried fruit. Watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium to coarse, foamy, prickly carbonation. Decent composition, light, a tad watery - OK.

On tap at BrewDog Waterloo, pours a cloudy murky dark amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt and gentle toasted caramel malt. Flavour is very dry, with toasted bready malt and a hint of caramel. Malty and dry. This isn't close to a scotch ale — Scottish ale maybe. It's fine.
