473 ml bottle. Pours a dark orangey brown with moderate head. Aromas of woody bourbon, dark fruit, candi sugar, and toasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional dry vanilla and Belgian yeast. Nice carbonation. Excellent.

Bottle from Delhaize. Hazy brown, big, frothy, beige head. Aroma of raisin, candied plum, red apple, molasses, pear syrup, vanilla, bourbon, wet wood. Taste has very sweet plum, pear & red apple in a caramelly, brown-sugary, bit nutty malt body with herbal accents. Peppery hoppy finish offers dried fruit, woody walnut, touch of vanilla and warming bourbon alcohol. Medium body, syrupy texture, average carbonation. Very enjoyable sipper, typical De Meester, but if the original Retrorik was the base beer, then all 'traces' (pun intended) of its 'dark' character have been erased here.

14/XII/22 - 33cl bottle from Geers, shared @ Zythos class (Gent), BB: 31/12/26, L2212P107 (2022-1745)

Clear dark brown beer, small aery irregular beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet impression, lots of caramel, dried fruits, bit malty, oxidized, more caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, lots of caramel, a bit yeasty, banana, sugary, coconut, very alcoholic, strong, gentle roast. Aftertaste: very sugary, dried fruits, malty, banana, pretty bitter, a little nutty, alcohol, ok but a bit sharp. Needs some more time to mellow out a bit, I think.
