When the popular English Porter started traveling up the Baltic coast in the 1800s, brewers in Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Russia adapted the style and made it their own. This Dovetail version is based on the Baltic Porters we love to pick up at the Polish delis on the West Side. It's our darkest lager; capped by a large stand of cream-colored foam to showcase deep and rich malt aromas of milk chocolate, raisins, and restrained coffee roast. It's smooth and balanced, but exhibits slightly more bravado and complexity than its English counterparts.

Can from a liquor store in Chicago. Pours brown with red highlights, large spongy tan head, faint caramel-mocha aroma, medium carbonation, initially sweetish caramel-mocha taste, thin body, long caramel-mocha finish. Decent porter.

Aroma is roasty, chocolaty (Whoppers malt balls). Taste is a little sweet with a light tang and some light bitterness on the back end.

Roast and some sour lemon. Not exactly the experience I was hoping for here. Not sure what's going on with sour mash tang. Black pour with decent head. Light bitterness in finish along with the tang. Some roast, coffee. Can from Brew Shop advent calendar.

Late night can. Dark but more brown than black. Nose is chocolate and ash. Tastes of char, licorice, raisin, chocolate. Smooth palate. Low bitterness. Not much bold flavors but pleasant enough.

16oz can from the brewery. I think I had this years ago when I first visited the brewery...serious backlog problems. Sort of nails it. Nice chocolate, caramel tone without being syrupy. Moderate ABV keeps it quite drinkable. Really enjoyable. balanced, solid beer.
