Double IPA – A strong and full bodied ale with intense hop characteristics and a deep golden color. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful bittering and fragrant hop character of this beer. Double IPA pairs nicely with shellfish and spicy dishes.

Amber color. It’s the kind of sweetish Pale Ale, with some hopping but not particularly aromatic. Very simple.

Poured a murky copper orange with a foamy, soapy white head. Extremely hoppy aroma, citrus, pine, perfume, flowers. Malty, citrus, flavor with notes of orange, lemons, grapefruits and hints of mint and vanilla. Not as thick or sweet in the mouth as you would anticipate, finish is subtle with a lasting bitterness and acidity. A peak example of the type and enjoyable and drinkable.

Bottle. Rich reddish-amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit and pine aroma, but not as strong as most IIPAs. Resiny, caramel flavor with good balance. Finished with grapefruit and resin. Fuller bodied. Not overly hopped, but still good. Seems to oxidize quickly.

Slightly hazy copper color with small off white head. Aroma is really weak. I think I smell grapefruit and a sweet/tart-cotton candylike aroma. The taste is a nice round hop flavor due to a late hop addition to the boil. There could be a bit more hop bitterness for this style beer. The flavor has no real stand out elements. It’s smooth. I taste the malt sweetness that mixes well with the hop flavor which results in a sweet and sour candy like taste. It’s a nice flavor. The beer finishes with a sweet and tart flavor along with the warmth of the alcohol. This beer is really good but isn’t what I was expecting due to the lack of actual hop bitterness. I will be buying it again.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy deep orange amber. Huge fluffy sandy colored head. Persistant heavy lacing. Very nice citrusy tangerine rind aroma. You can tell this is a high grav IPA just from the aroma. Nice heavy malt flavore profile with the ABV coming through. Not overly hoopy and biter but balanced and rounded. Late woody bitter trailer. Nice fine lively carbonation. A hefty IPA that is not that obnoxious for a double. Thansk Capt. Cougar

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy deep orange color ale with a small foamy head with average retention. Aroma of citrus hops is dominant but definitely not as much as in other IIPA that I’ve recently tasted. Taste is also dominated by the citrus hops with some nice sweet malt to balance this beer. Not as bitter as expected but I wouldn’t hold this again this beer. Alcohol is very well hidden and was even surprise to see how much there actually was.

Bottle. Not too bad. Dark yellow/orange color. Malty, deffinately an IPA. Hoppy and an alright finish.

On tap at the Hop Devil Grill. Poured into a pint glass. Color is orange, translucent, can kind of see through the beer. The flavor is well balanced, not overpowering like a lot of Imperials IPAs. Bitterness is present and strong but nothing like the GD Hercules. Hoppy but not over the top, as well. Great effervescent feeling left on the tongue. I’ll take this IIPA over most of the top rated ones.

Pours deep amber/gold into a snifter. Cereal, caramel and frat basement floor sweetness. Malty, light, slick and thin. Nice alcohol buzz.

Hazy golden ale with creamy off white head. Caramel malt with nice floral hops. Sweet caramle in mouth with pungeant hops and notes of strawberries. Intense hops and rich bodied. Very nice. On tap at Clark’s Ale House, Summer 2005.
