Unser Bier für den absoluten Kenner. Eine Erinnerung an alte Traditionen. Im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert durfte Bier nur von Michaeli (29. September) bis Georgi (23. April) gebraut werden. Deshalb wurde ab März ein stärkeres und damit haltbareres Bier gebraut, das sogenannte Märzen, das bis in den Herbst hinein im Alltag und bei den Festen genossen wurde. Diesen Ursprung will unser Märzen nicht leugnen. Ein leuchtendes, bernsteinfarbenes, vollmundiges, malziges Bier. Sehr süffig. Der Höhepunkt für jedes Fest!

Tap at the Winterbauer-Keller I think. Full, clear golden body, off-white head. Herbal, caramelly, okayish aroma. Dry caramelly maltiness, herbal hoppy taste, bit light. Okay, tasty, not the best of notes, hah.

@home poured into a footed pilsner glass. Clear pale amber colour, good frothy white head, half-way lasting, fair lacing. Aroma sweet malt, grain, caramel, hay. Taste medium sweet and above light bitter, malty, toffee, grain. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, fresh malty sweetbitter aftertaste, metallic notes, well-made, nice märzen.

Süffiger, weich karamelliger Beginn. Milde Herbe, spritzig, fein würzig, leicht erhöhte Karbonisierung. Spritzig, leicht ansteigende Herbe, rund. Langer, karamellig herbe herber Abgang. 10/9/10/9/11/10

500ml bottle courtesy of Koelschtrinker. Gold, half finger of head which diminishes quickly to leave minimal retention. Aroma is sweet malts, some caramel and bread, a light fruity and floral hop at the end. Taste is more bread like malts, sweet, a long moderate bitterness runs through this with a slight hint of fruity hop. Moderate body and carbonation works well, quite smooth. Its a sweet beer but its not sickly. Not complex but there is enough here to enjoy.

Hofmann Fest-Märzen, 5,5 % Flasche von Hopfen & Malz. - Satt goldbraun, blank. - In der Nase tief brotiges, leicht karamelsüßes Malz und hintergründige hopfenwürzige Herbe mit ein wenig Orangenschale. - Antrunk kernig karamelmalzig-toastig, ganz zart rauchig, mit Butterkeks, solider honigbitterer Bonbonsüße und dezenter Frucht. Aromatische Hopfenherbe mit kandierter Orangenschale. Milder rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang delikate hopfenwürzig-herbale Herbe. - Sehr schönes, kernig malztiefes und elegant gehopftes Märzen mit Charakter. (6.9.2020.)

Bottle. Deep golden color. Malty sweet flavor with hints of biscuit and peach. Medium to full bodied, almost thick mouthfeel. Clean. Fruity aftertaste. Soft maltaroma. Pleasant märzen.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A clear, golden beer with a finger-thick white head. Malty nose with some fruity, hoppy scents. Sweet initial flavor, but it dries up nicely, a pity the flavor is so uninteresting. Decent bitterness showing up towards the end. Mostly grainy flavor though. It wouldn’t be a problem downing a few of these, but I don’t feel an urge to do so. 100814

Dark golden with a lasting white head. Fine and clean malty aroma of grain and bread, with a grassy note. Sweet bread and caramel flavour.
