Vicious Tradition is our homage to the absolute institute of British brewing that is the humble ESB. Rich flavours of caramel and toffee from the malts compliment the spicy notes and fruity berry flavours from the East Kent Goldings hops, whilst a moderate bitterness on the finish ties the flavours together

Can from Candy & Liquor, Birmingham. Mahogany with small off white head. Toasted malt aroma with nuts, berries, dusty hop. Taste is quite malty and sweet but with distinctive berry and plum notes, some caramel. Slightly bitter with hop tingle in finish but could do with more. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Good.

Can bought at Growlers and Cans, Guildford. Aroma is rich and malty with chocolate, plus a berry edge. Cloudy opaque dark brown. Thin foamy tan head. Floaters. Tangy berry start. This sourness remains throughout, as well as developing an increasingly sweet streak. Underlying chocolatey malts and some grainy bitterness. Medium bodied. Slick to oily. Average-fizzy carbonation. It's lazy. Long dry somewhat astringent finish.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 01/06/22. Unclear deep mahognay brown with an off white cap that settles as a swirl. Nose is stewed fruits, hedgerow, brown bread, dark malts, toffee. Taste carries a sweeter edge than the nose suggests comprising fruit cake, dark malts, marzipan, nutty, dried fruits, raisins, brown sugar dusting. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow bitter climax. Not bad.

On tap (cask) at Black Bulls Head at Open Woodgate, Derbyshire. Me and Loz are out with Dad, Saturday 7th May 2022. Pours copper in colour, not quite clear. A little earthy and there is bramble and hedgerow berries. Quite smooth, fruity, some sweeteness. Overall pretty good but you can tell that this style is a little out of the Pentrich comfort zone, it's a touch to traditional for these guys.

Cask @ Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Clear copper-amber with a creamy head. Has a hoppy-malty aroma with malts a little lighter in taste, it's actually quite bland with a bitter styling, but it's texture is good.
