5 years ago, when we were building the brewery, we marvelled at the trains rolling by. These trains, most of which were headed from Union Station to Pearson Airport, gave rise to our IPA which we named Union Pearson Ale, or UPA for short. Over the years, we’ve had many questions about what UPA stood for and, with the beer launching in the LCBO this fall, we thought the time was right to just spell it out. Introducing Pearson Express IPA, the same great beer you love in a less confusing package.

473ml can from Duty Free shop at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto. Amber orange pour is topped by frothy beige head. Spotty lacing. Sweet malty aroma hints at pineapple and orange marmalade. Flavor is toasted malt and bitter orange. Notes of dried apricots, grapefruit and pine.

Light brown to copper pour, with a light beige head. Aroma is soft and resinous, hints if pine and citrus pith and oil. It’s pretty subtle and light, light malts and some pale cereals. Nice mouth feel and carb. Finish is light to medium bitter with some soft citrus
Nothing special, but tasty.

Grapefruit and pine. Decent enough IPA. Clear copper pour with ok head, some lacing. Bitter end. Medium body. Tap at Pearson airport, appropriately enough.

473ml can. Pours a hazy gold orange with a small, foamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet fruity aroma of caramel malt, peach, orange, strawberry and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of caramel malt, orange, grapefruit pith, apricot and pine resin in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Pretty solid.

Layover beer at YYZ. Hazy amber, lots of hop bitterness, resinous, balancing malts are biscuity. A touch yeasty, and it’s certainly old school. But well enough made in that throwback 90s style.

Oh boy, quite a sweet smell for a double dry-hopped IPA, with caramel malts and pineapple notes, fruitiness. A very slight hazed, unfiltered with a frothy white cap, good retention and thick foamy lacing left. The nose balances out with breathing time. The mouthfeel does show the dryness. Some fruity hops in the taste showing citrus, tropical fruits and mild grassiness. Not a bad brew, but not my type of IPA I like to have every night.

Slightly cloudy orange, golden, sheet of head with some lacing. Nose is hoppy resin, flowers ans sweet hay malt. Taste lots of resin, perfume, some floral, some lingering bitterness and pepper over fairly sweet hay malts. There is a little rough hop burn going on with this one.
