5 years ago, when we were building the brewery, we marvelled at the trains rolling by. These trains, most of which were headed from Union Station to Pearson Airport, gave rise to our IPA which we named Union Pearson Ale, or UPA for short. Over the years, we’ve had many questions about what UPA stood for and, with the beer launching in the LCBO this fall, we thought the time was right to just spell it out. Introducing Pearson Express IPA, the same great beer you love in a less confusing package.

A translucent golden ipa with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, treacle, pleasant.

Glowing golden brass color with a tropical piney aroma. This beer has a smooth soft mouthfeel and full body. Great balanced hoppiness that gives you a bitter bite but also enticing fruity hoppiness. Good stuff. 3.7

On tap at Fionns Bar, Toronto Pearson Airport. A dark amber pour with a thick cream head; piney aroma with a hint of citrus; sharp piney bitterness to start, then becoming slightly more mellow; the finish is rather harsh with a burn. A rather unbalanced IPA.

On tap. Pours a hazy orange/brown with moderate head. Aromas of bready malts and dull fruit. Flavours are pretty much the same. Homebrew like.

Draught at Pearson. Cloudy orange with retained, chunky off white head of large bubbles. Moderate orange with slight pine aroma. Taste is slight orange and malt is balanced. Not too bad. Aroma hops trump flavor hops.

Can from the brewery. Hazy medium copper under a fluffy long lived off white head that leaves tight lace. Nose is malt forward with some pine and citrus and light fruit. Light+ caramel sweetness and a medium- citrus bitterness. Mouth is a tad thin with soft carbonation. OK. 7/4/7-/3/13

Keg at Ottawa Winter Brewfest. Disclaimer: This event used plastic cups, which may have prevented my ability to fully appreciate this beer. Cloudy amber, rich creamy head. Milky nose with slight grapefruit. Mid sweet with medium body and clean mouthfeel. Fruity and piney. Resiny bitter finish. Lacking aroma, edgy malt.

From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, peachy and slight citrusy. Crisp hoppy. Again, smooth peachy and slight citrusy. Lingering citrusy into the far finish. Crisp hoppy brew.
