Our original brewery in Toronto’s historic Distillery District, known as “Tankhouse #3” was built in 1879 as a storage building for bulk spirits waiting to be filled into barrels. It was in this building in 2003 that our Tankhouse Ale was born. Now made with all organic ingredients, we use an abundance of organic hops and five different organic malts to produce a rich, fiery pale ale, copper-red in colour, and truly satisfying in flavour.

(On tap at Madison Ave Pub, Toronto, Jan 12 2016) Pours clear dark brownish amber with an off white head and no lace. Aroma is sweet with caramel, toffee, some earthy and kind of piney hops with just a bit of citrus fruitiness. Flavour mimics nose with lots of toffee sweetness to the malt, hops are pine, resin and earth dominated, a little bit of toast too. Some grapefruit and floral notes peek into the finish, which is medium-dry thanks to some bittering. Aftertaste has some grainy bread. Average mouthfeel, a bit sticky, carbonation is above average. Not bad as far as a malty pale ale goes, nothing really surprising here. A standby at places with mediocre tap selections.

Draught @ the brewpub in Ottawa. Pours clear dark amber with small white head. Clear aroma of hops and malt, with citric and estery touches. Bitter, hoppy flavour with notes of malt and roast and some touches of yeast and needles. Bitter aftertaste. Decent but not as citric as I had expected.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a large foamy orange-tan head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was faintly malty with notes of toffee, golden fruit and a touch of perfume. The flavor was bitey, bitter and perfumey. Long perfumey finish. Medium body. Meh.

473ml can, via tarde, thanks Asheft.

Poured from the tap (note: ordered the Tankenstein which is 7.2% abv and around 70IBU (approx 25 higher than the tank house) but it listed it as an alias to the Tank House). Golden copper with off white head. Fruity candied caramel malt with resiny hops. Dryish finish.

Bottle. Milky orange caramel malt and light orange peel aroma. Sweet creamy orange caramel malt and lightly bitter orange peel flavor. Smooth body. Not a typical APA - very malty. Pleasant.

Bottle at my uncle’s place. It pours a crystal clear golden brown with a big malty aroma, nutty cocoa. The taste is nice and clean maltiness with a little tangy citrus. Pretty good.

341 ml bottle. Pours a reddish amber colour with a medium sized off-white head. Sweet aroma of malt, caramel and hops. Flavour matches aroma, but with a dry, bitter hop finish. Medium body, creamy texture with lively carbonation.

Bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a deep copper with a minimal white head. Bread and grass nose. Mostly sweet roasty malts but a decent level of bitterness that doesn’t overpower shows up in the middle. Medium slick body with average carbonation. Much better than I was expecting given the product it is placed alongside in my local Beer Store.
