Can, drunk in the train from The Hague to Hengelo. Bought in Wijn en Bierboetiek, The Hague. Metallic and grainy. Thin. Hints of orange. There is some distant bitterness, probably not really from Pride of Ringwood hops, but a more nasty bitterness not taken from hops. Nutty. Cardboard. Not good.

Can (BBE looks like 2009, but could be 2008 too). Hilarious find on the flea market in Palosaari, Vaasa, and I took the chance to buy it for 2 euros, with the thought that it probably wasn’t any good to begin with. Yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Bubbly and crisp carbonation still. Aroma is grassy, herbal, earthy and some bready malts. Flavour is quite similar, but also has a quite evident grainy and some cooked vegetably notes to it.

What the four X’s stand for might sum this lager up, pretty poor bog-standard stuff.

Bottle at Berliner Bierfestival. Clear, pale golden pour, with a white head. Weak nose, mostly grain and hay, but there’s something alcohol-like there as well. Weak flavor as well, with fruits and some hops, leading to a finish with some hops and bitterness. Thin to medium body. Boring and quaffable. (070804)

Canned. Woeful British brewed lager. Pleasant enough to look at, but next to no aroma. Watery mouth-feel with taste of skunky hops and depressing metallic aftertaste. Never again....

440ml Can. Gold with a trace of white head; chemicla aroma, with traces of artificial sweeteners; tastes like Irn-Bru (a carbonated beverage popular in Scotland). Apparently this is "brewed using imported...hops from Australia" - so I guess they must have been mixed with some pretty crappy hops from somewhere else - for alternatively Australian hops aren’t very good. I thought I’d never say this but "I’d rather have a Fosters".

500 ml can, named "Castlemaine XXXX Draught Lager", brewed under license in the UK by Interbrew. ABV was 4.0%. Drank it ice cold, like the Aussies prefer it. Pale golden colour, moderate head. Weak sweetish aroma. Little taste at all, just a hint of boiled vegetables and a faint bitterness. Better than water.
