Bottle. Almost black with a dense tan head that fades slowly. Aroma of berry-tinged coffee, heavy roast, touch of soy. But mellower in taste than suggested by the aroma with soft bread and a touch of cream before firm, mildly spiced bitterness. Good balance, pretty good flavours, little intrigue.

(750ml bottle from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours black with a small dark tan head. Notes dominated by nice medium roast coffee with notes of chocolate, soft earth, some spicebox, light licorice, some sweet burnt sugar and a bit of nutty grain, soft fruity undertones, a little umami and smoke, with the moderately sweet mid-sip giving way to a drier coffee dominated finish where the relatively light malt for style recedes and some hop resin shows through. Medium-bodied and slick with soft carb and a touch of booze. Nice coffee-dominated stout, not the massive backbone of modern US takes but well-made.
