On tap. Pours a very dark redfish brown with almost no head. Aromas of peat, dark fruit, dark sugars, tobacco and soft toasty malts. Flavors of peat, licorice, sweetened figs, tobacco, minerals, and more soft toasty malts. Seems a little thin which exaggerates the peat.

Dochter van de Korenaar's celebrated quadrupel aged in peated whisky barrels - a new batch, not mentioning the Islay whisky anymore but simply called 'Embrasse Peated' and coming from a longneck bottle; I assume it is still the same thing so I refrained from creating a new entry for it, but I will leave it up to the admins to find that out as I have not quite kept track of all these Embrasse variants in recent years, alas. Thick and moussey, pale yellowish beige, tiny-bubbled and dense, very regular, stable head on a misty dark bronze-brown robe with mahogany glow. Aroma of quite some peat indeed but more actual (wet) peat than iodine bandage, heavily hovering over impressions of caramel, smoky barbecue sauce, dried prunes, old raisins, brown bread dough, actual whisky, dry earth, black tea, dried fig, nutmeg, bayleaf, wood glue. Fruity onset, sweetish but not as sweet as many other quads (as can be said of the base beer, of course), hints of dried fig, prune and dried goji berries, with a sprinkle of brown sugar on top just to remind us that it is a quad we are having, but also with a dim sourish undertone; moderate carb, full and smooth, bit fluffy body. Brown-bready, roasted walnutty, dry-caramelly malt core, the sweetness lingering for a bit but becoming more fruity (dried dark fruits in this case) and eventually giving way to the peat, which comes in strong and smoky, but not overly iodine-like. Instead it adds a umami aspect to a warming, bit herbal, dark-malty and rich finish, in which aspects of bayleaf, salmiak and clove linger over a refined, yet confident bitterness, consisting of both a toasty aspect and herbal hops. The whisky as such does begin to dominate a bit in the end, with an actual whisky flavour and accompanying peppery alcohol heat - just a tad too much for my personal liking, but the sheer soundness of the basic beer can take a beating, and the whole remains firmly upright. Quite a complex evening sipper, but peated whisky is very much present here, on the brink of becoming overly dominant even - so be prepared for that. Not one for the 'easy' and sweet quad lover, I guess - this is more challenging, but also very rewarding in the end.

Very dark red brown colour with lasting thin head. Loads of dark malts. Starts with some sherry notes then smoke and peat. Iodine too.

Thx to the people at Craft House! Slightly hazy brown body, off-white head. Oily aroma light fruity touches, some peat, sweetish, not bad. High carbonation and huge peat, carroty, in the taste, light tartness in the finish. Not sure I am a fan of the combo, but can't say it's particularly bad.

Bottled. Pitch black colour with a small beigeish off-white head, which leaves some foam. Aroma is sweet malts, peat, caramel and mild wooden and spicy tones to it. Flavour is peated, spicy, floral, caramelly and mild toffee tones as well.

33cl bottle from hopt.it. Pours dark brown, with fine brown foam. Aroma is intensely peated, smoked. Body is fairly thin, elegant, with soft carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, oxidated. Final is fairly long but delicate and elegant.

i bought an embrasse barrrelled where I could not see what kind it was in the online shop. Not at all dissatisfied with getting this version.. I like peated islay, also in beer. won the lottery... and I haven't even rated it earlier. pitch dark, like a stout, smooth light brown head. extremely peated whiskey woody aroma peat dominates everything. also wood, glue, sour notes. Like standing inside a large port barrel cellar, boozy woody sweet sensation but also all the peat. i give it 7 bc it is extraordinarily messy, i could just as well give it 8. we are a long way into the crazy/wild category. flavor is most of all strange. barrelled beer dominates, some sour notes. not that much peated whiskey, but lots and lots of wood. the beer itself tastes like a damped down sour bruin. Interesting experiment of how crazy can it get, but doesn't really taste like the brewer is trying to create something pleasant. I like crazy, but can only go to 7, 8+ is reserved for stuff that tastes good. from time to time the peat escapes the rest of the flaovors and you notice how insanely intensive it is.
