50 cl. bottle @ home // thx to Fré // clear golden, millions of bubbles rising, white head on the smaller side, stable // smell is moderate, mellow sweet grains, hay; light citrus, not a long going, round, not bad // touch sweet grains, plenty of hay, even a hint of yeast, decent amount of grass, not bad, finish touch iron & herbal // easy to drink, strong carbonation is not bothersome // not bad actually obviously still not great // this is manageable // mainly because taste is large devoid of strong flavours, all moderate, it manages to be doable // bottom of bottle says that I didn’t win unfortunately but wishes for me to enjoy my fresh Veltins // this is not really fresh but I am sort of enjoying this // watching Red Beard by Akira Kurosawa

Light golden color with big white head. Hoppy aroma. Fine easy drinkable taste, just a little boring.

Light golden color. Large white head. Tastes like sweet malt, grain, bitter hops and some citrus. It’s very bitter and have medium body and nice balanced carbonation.

On tap at Bath University 26/05/2012. Golden withg a slight white head. Malty lager, with some pronounced cereal character, a touch of sweetness and bitter finish. Not bad.

Sept 2009: I was very plesantly suprised to see this beer ’on-tap’ at my overnight accommodation this week. I’d booked the Lamb Inn in Iron Acton because it was a Real Ale pub. Veltins Pilsner is an old friend of mine from years ago, thought I’d reviewed a bottle on here, but no record appears to back that up. Anyway, the three pints I had all came in tall badged glasses and looked a picture; Clear bright golden yellow body witha good firm white head, retension was good and the lacing stayed on the glass as the liquid flew down my throat. The Pilsner/lager style doesn’t produce any great aromas for my nose, this beer is no different, a few hops, grass and some flowery hints, but nothing to really get into. The flavours and taste is typical clean German mass produced Pilsner, but a little stronger than say, Bitburger, and with more freshness too. It brought back happy times and the days of my courting while in germany back in the 70’s, glad I stumbled across it again (I have two old Veltins glasses that I use to review lagers and pilsners in).

50cl bottle from Rewe, Dusseldorf. Clear golden in color with a frothy, white head. Grasy hoppy aroma with some graininess. Flavor has similar things going on. Light bitter and fruity finish. Crisp, well made pilsener.

50cl bottle from Tesco. Pale straw with a loose white head; typical sweet, grassy, pilsner aroma; crisp, grainy, body with a touch of honeyed sweetness; and a clean finish. Just as a pilsner should be.
