Found in Trinkwelt Neuenhaus, just a mile or two from the Dutch border. Swing top bottle. Light grassy aroma. Hoppy, grassy, malty flavor with some pear. Drinkable, but no signs of greatness.

“Franken Bräu Pilsener“, Flasche (50 cl) aus dem Markgrafen-Getränkemarkt Bad Steben. - Helles Goldgelb, blank.

0.5 l bottle from local ’Trink & Spare’, best before March 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly malty aroma of honey and butter. Sweetish-malty, slightly grainy taste of honey, butter, sweet popcorn, some straw and hints of cardboard, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little grassy finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Maybe the bottle is not freshest anymore, but this tastes more like a Festbier than their actual Festbier, whereas their Festbier resembles a real Pils. Strange. The beer is not bad by the way, just not what I was expecting.

At Internationales Berliner Bierfestival 2016. Clear golden with a white head. On the sweet side with malt, light grass and some grain. Easy to drink and with a medium bitterness.

Typical south German Pilsener with snow white, regular, quite thick and stable head and clear, pale straw golden colour. Pure and pleasant pale malts in the nose, sweetish, bit grainy, bit cheesy, iron, flowery hops. Soft malt sweetness in the mouth, faintly metallic, rounded, mildly hop bitter finish. Simple but credible and thirst-quenching.

Tall flip-top 500ml bottle: BBD 2nd Mar 15. Poured into an old Schultheiss glass at home on 7th Aug 14. Very pale, clear and clean golden blonde: full white foaming head that hung around. Semi-sweet corn and herbal nose. Crisp and refreshing: a good solid Pilsner with a little more sweetness than bitterness in the mouth. Nothing complicated or different here, just a good example of a German Pilsner and I would happily have another and another.

Geruch hopfig, getreidig, grasig. Geschmack hopfig, grasig, lang anhaltende Bitterkeit.
