Klar bernsteinfarben mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger, getreidiger, fruchtiger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, getreidig, fruchtig nach dunklen Beeren, etwas Karamell, schwach hopfig. Mittlere bis hohe Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, mittlerer bis voller Körper mit sanfter Kohlensäure.

Malty bit smoky aroma, that is hard to trace. Sweet flavor, peppery with some roasted malt. Hopbitter, slightly alcoholic finish. Nice doppelbock, but doesn’t stand out in any way. 5 4 7 3 12 = 3.1 A later sample impressed me much more. Deep dark brown color, creamy head. Roast aroma with cacao. Roastbitter flavor with dark chocolate. Malty sweetish. Medium to full bodied. Quite likeable, tasty doppelbock.

Carolus von Binding; Flasche von Edeka, Volkmarsen. - Tiefdunkles Kupferrotbraun, klar. - In der Nase etwas mattes aber doch tiefes dunkles Malz mit Röstbrot, gedämpfte Süße, Rosinen, herbe und weinige Anklänge, leicht fuselig. - Antrunk kräftig dunkelmalzig mit Röstbrot, Bitterschokolade und herber Orangenschale, die bald in eher derbe krautige und Kaffeebittere übergeht. Milder rezent, vollmundig, deutliche aber angenehme Alkoholpräsenz. Im Abgang eher derbe aber kernige Bittere von krautigem Hopfen und Röstmalz. - Positiv ist schon mal, daß eine Großbrauerei wie Binding überhaupt noch einen echten Doppelbock führt. Noch dazu fällt dieser individueller aus als viele, ist kernig malzig, frisch und trotz etwas ruppiger Hopfung (nur Extrakt kommt zum Einsatz) mehr als trinkbar. Probierenswert!

0.5 l bottle from local 'toom', best before June 2019. Clear, ruby with a large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of molasses, raisins and prunes. Fairly sweet, malty, slightly fruity taste of molasses, raisins and prunes, followed by a short, moderately bitter, a bit metallic finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Not a great Doppelbock but still enjoyable.

Flasche 0,5l: Dunkles Mahagoni, Kastanienbraun, glasklar, kräftiger fester feinporiger beiger Schaum; in der Nase deutliche Süße, Malzzucker, dunkle Fruchtigkeit, Trauben, süße Würze, Karamell, leichte Röstaromen, Schokolade; im Körper deutliche Süße, Röstmalz, Malzzucker, kräftige Röstaromen, cremig, kräftige Kohlensäure, deutliche Säure, dunkle Fruchtigkeit, trockene Bitterkeit, Kaffee; angenehmer trocken-würziger Nachgang mit mehr Röstaromen

0,5 l bottle.Dark brown in the glass, clear, so far I can see. Nearly two finger fine foamy beige head. Sweet malty nose, some fruits. Taste starts mid roasty, also sweet dark fruity. Pleasant alcholic bitterness in the second row. Dark malt with sweetness in the aftertaste, hints of barrelwood. Heavyweight but quaffable. Getting liitle bit flat to the end.

[backlog] 19-12-15 / bottle at Christmas market Ingelheim. Strong malt, some caramel. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. First impression is the alcohol and a mild warmth. At 7.5 percent it is not called "Der Starke" without reason. Tastes of bitter malts, very faint fruitiness, but the taste seems overwhelmed by the alcohol and finishes very one-dimensional in the end.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pours a clear brown with a large foamy tan head. Aroma of toffee and raisin. The taste is toffee, caramel, burnt sugar, raisin and tinny hops. Medium bodied, low carbonation.

50cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks! Pours clear mahogany with an off-white head. Malty aroma with caramel, dried fruits and some herbal notes and hints of toast. Sweet and caramelly with a rather mild bitterness. Quite tasty and pleasant, but not quite my favourite style.
