Legend Brown Ale has been our most popular beer for eleven years running, so you might ask why we would feel compelled to make a different interpretation of the style. Our answer to that would be that Imperial Brown Ale is a different style altogether.

“Imperial” in the beer world describes a beer that is simply BIGGER than the traditional style … Imperial Stout, Imperial IPA (ours will be out late Summer). These are ramped-up versions of the original style containing more malt, more hops, more alcohol, more flavor.

LCRBM2: Chocolate cake dough in the aroma. Chocolate and cascade hops in the flavor. Earthy hoppy aftertaste. Slightly alcoholic and slightly unbalanced.

Deep caramel/copper coloured body with a nearly perfect tan head that tops the beer - ruby when held to a light, this beer looks great! Aroma of fresh hops, clean toasted malt, raisins, nuts and a bit of grass. Medium-bodied; Strong hops up front with a citrus and grassy taste, combined with malt near the end of the taste and a punch of nuts to finish it out. Aftertaste a bit more refined - some alcohol, a lot of nuts and pit fruits and a bit of bitter hops - very nice! Overall, a good beer, more of an Imperial IPA than an Imperial Brown, but very nice indeed! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased yesterday, 31-May-2008 at Kybecca in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours ruby red with large tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and pear. Hops are a little too assertive. Nice toffee flavor. Nice effervescence. But, off balance and there is an "off" flavor. The only way I can describe it is the juice from that fruit cocktail from my elementary school lunches.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a nice creamy head. This beer is very smooth and creamy! The alcohol content is pretty well masked within this brew. Every well balanced. I could see myself drinking this one often (if only it wasn’t a special brew!).

Draft at Legend brewery: Lemon peel, moss, and thistle aroma. Brown color with a medium yellow head, great glass coating. Taste is tangy lemon, orange and bark. Subdued moss finish that assumes a hoppier character as the glass warms. The higher alcohol content isn’t the least bit noticeable. Quite a hoppy brown ale and I love it!

Murky, brown body. Off-white head. Sweet aroma of fruits, port, honey. Moderately bitter flavour. Not very complex, just quite bitter.

LCRBM2. Hazy brown, lasting beige head. Lovely aroma of malt. Rich malt in mouth and then a malty finish. Intense brown malty beer, nice if a bit one dimensional.

Muddy brown-red; small yellow head. American bale hops and some molasses, peat moss. Sweet taste with dry-bitterish hops, but very little else. Molasses, yes. Quite chewy, ending lighter. Some alcoholburn. Good beer, but it is just a bit too much on the hedge between style directions.

Thanks to Numenor for this one! Pours with a generous head of tan over a deep brown body. Caramel aroma with some earthy, nutty, notes. Mild sweetness followed by a slight drying from the hops. Bitter finish. Smooth and easy drinking.
