Duchesse RED is a top-fermented Flanders Red Ale matured in wine oak casks for several months and macerated with cherries. Featuring aromas of fruit with hints of almonds and light sour cherries, the taste is initially sweet and fruity and keeps the balance nicely with a refreshing aftertaste.

Draught @ Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury with Ewan, Mike, Simon, Mark and Soph. Pours a deep dark reddish brown, thin cream coloured head. Bears a deeper cherry sweet resonance and refined barrel aging and excellent harmony of flavours without getting too tangy or sour. Not a tame Duchesse by any stretch but perhaps more mature. Prefer to the original if I'm honest.

0.33 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', best before February 2027. Hazy, ruby with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Intensely sweetish, minimally sourish, rather fruity and a bit artificial aroma of lots of cherry juice, some almond and light redcurrant. Rather sweet, gently sour, very fruity and a bit artificial taste of cherry juice, almond, vinegar, lemon and some redcurrant, followed by a medium long, gently tart finish. Medium body, slightly astringent and gently effervescent momouthfeel, soft carbonation. Too sweet, even a bit artificial, the base beer too far in the back. Not bad, but still quite disappointing.

2021 can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a dark ruby red with dark purple highlights and a small off-white head that dissipates. Lovely dark cherry fruit aromas on the nose. As it warms some light toasted vanilla from the oak and vinous red wine character on the palate. Sweet at first, but a nice tart, refreshing finish that lingers. Lots of depth and flavor. Excellent!

330ml can bought at Vinmonopolet Stokmarknes, shared with Esben. Creamy, pinkish head over a cloudy black-reddish body, spotty lacing. Prominent aromas of almond and cherry. The taste profile follows suit with almond, oak, and mid-tart cherry. Marzipan-like impression. Rather sweet, and semi-dry finish. Pretty good in smaller amounts. (Stokmarknes, 01.07.2024).

Can. Very dark red with a pink head. Aroma of Dutch almond fingers, somewhat medicinal cherries, vanilla-ish oak. Soft, creamy texture. A modest wine vinegar and cherry sourness is enough to keep what threatened to be very sweet mostly under control. It builds a bit and there's some pepper as well as vanilla to the oak. It's not Alexander but it's good. Like normal Duchesse, a tad sweet for me.
