This edition of the Grande Réserve fermented in barrels has a particularly fruity aroma. The pleasant fragrances of dried apricot, sweet apple and ripe pear, characteristic of Calvados, complement each other perfectly. The delicious flavours of chocolate and soft mocha merge into a perfectly balanced taste of roasted hazelnut and spicy biscuit, all of which are topped with a dash of vanilla and a light floral embrace. The bitterness is present just enough to contrast nicely with the dark caramel, and the ensemble flows into a delightfully long-lasting and warming aftertaste.

750mL bottle, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of cognac barrels, wonderfully complex Belgian yeast, toasted chestnuts, and bready caramel. Flavour is wonderfully complex, with lots of Belgian yeast, bready caramel, dark dried fruits, and just enough cognac barrels. Really complex, with a wonderful yeast expression and great barrel accentuation. Excellent.

Bottle, 375ml corked. Almost clear, brown, dense light beige head leaving lacing. Bread, caramel, dark dried fruit, some pine cones, wood, alcohol and perfumed notes in the aroma. Full body, dry with some sweetness, warming and nicely carbonated. Caramel, dried fruit, alcohol, wood hints and some perfumed notes in the flavor. Nice bitterness. Lasting finish. Pleasant, think I prefer the regular one though. 250131

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany color with light head. Aromas of raisins, oak, apple brandy and toasted malts. Flavors of oak, dried fruit, calvados and biscuity malts. Maybe a bit much on the oak but the Chimay Bleue still comes through nicely. Overall quite good.

375 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. Clear and deep brown colour, huge off-white head. Aroma of calvados, ice cider, oak, raisins and brown sugar. The flavour is rich, fruity and pleasant, but not too sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma, also moderate bittering hops. Dry finish.

Dark mahogany brown colour with thin head. It seems that there is a dominance of spicy gingerbread. Slightly out of balance as a result. Should be great but isn't.

--Sample, thanks oh6gdx! -- Copper colour, small head. Oaky nose with marzipan and bread. Mid sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Pears and oak. Peppery and mildly caramelly. Elegant!
