12 ounce can from Niemuth's, 7/14/23. Hazy amber, medium tan head, good retention. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel. Taste is toffee, grapefruit, mild tropical fruit, lime in the finish. Strong bitterness. Disjointed. Meh.

19.2 oz. can from HEB, Boerne, TX. Pours a clear bronze color with a tight beige head and great retention. Great lacing too. Hop oil aroma. Bitter hops flavor with a strange dirty character to it. Maybe that's the cactus water? It's not improving the experience. The 9.5% ABV is noticeable, but tolerable. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall not an enjoyable experience.

Cans sent by Shiner for my comments. I get a kind of musty nose under the can tab. Is that more of the cactus water, or are these danker hops. A slightly amber beer pour, lightly hazed with a reddish tinge, and a foamy head. Some sweetness at the onset, then it's overcome by a definite funkiness. I've had some IPA's that claimed to be dank, but this one had a definite impression of bong water (at least, as I remember it from 40 years ago). The alcohol is nicely noticeable. The malt is kind of thick, to match up to the hops. This from a traditional lager brewery, that has tried to go into IPAs by jumping into the deep end. In this case, it means a big ass hop and malt bomb.

The can from HEB nearby says it needs to be consumed by 3/25/23, I'll be making that with room to spare. On this very cold February day in Texas, I will be tasting the beer with my New Belgium globe glass. The pour is an indistinct, dark gold body topped by a long lasting head of yellow tinged, light tan foam. And the taste is, well, a bit different, but that is not necessarily bad. Nicely hoppy up front and followed by a bit of pineapple, agave, some citrus and straw. Not the norm for Shiner.
