Barrel-Aged Dopplebock
Dark Crator is our big barrel-aged take on a classic German style. Barrel-aging this rich and complex lager adds a layer of wood and whiskey complexity over the caramel malt which is balanced by a soft roastiness. This Dark Crator is worth falling into.

From Liquor Shed, part of a mixed 6pack, bottled February 8th.
It pours a lovely clear crimson red with a finger of foam. Retention and lacing are first class.
The smell is caramel malt, big woody notes, alcohol, and the barrel, which seems to be the same aroma as the other 2 beers in the 6pack.
The taste is sweet caramel, wood, leather (yuck), booze, oh my. I reiterate that the BAging is so similar to the other 2 beers and I find it quite unacceptable to my palate.
Mouthfeel is fine, I would never drink this again.

12 oz bottle generously given to me by csbosox. The pour is a slight haze of copper brown with no head whatsoever. The aroma is toffee, spice, nutmeg and maybe some cinnamon. The taste is big toffee up front, a touch of cane sugar then moves into the spice character with the nutmeg and cinnamon of the nose. The palate is medium to heavier bodied with low carbonation and a warming alcohol that is well integrated. Toffee and cane sugar lingers nicely in the back. Well done. Thanks, Chris!

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper colored body that supports a loose light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up caramel, figs, plums and brown sugar. The taste delivers smooth sweet caramel malts moving into smooth plums, dates and figs. Toward midway brown sugar dusted raisins and then some booze. This is smooth and easy drinking and I'm liking this. Solid sipper.

Roast and whiskey. Caramel, toffee. Clear orange-brown pour with a few mocha bubbles. Lots of malt. Some orange peel. Very rich profile. Bottle.

Aromas are toffee, malt and dark fruit. Flavors are similar to nose, on the sweet side with enough carbonation and bitter to balance. Okay body and a slightly boozy finish.

Bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a dark brown with a finger of beige head that dissipates. Oak, warming bourbon, caramel, fig and toffee aromas on the nose. Very similar on the palate. Warming bourbon, oak, vanilla on the finish that lingers. Very nice.
