The Chimay Blue is a dark ale with a powerful aroma. Its complex flavor improves with passing time. The 75-centiliter version (since 1982) is called ''Grande Réserve'' because of its great storage potential., It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. But after its great success, it was decided to offer it permanently.

Bottle, 330 ml at Kulminator. 11 years old at the time. Brown with beige head. Chocolate, dried fruit, moderate sweetness, bit more dull and unexciting than the fresh.

Bottle, 330 ml at Kulminator. 21 year old at the time. Very nice oak aroma, unfortunately too thin in body. Soft texture. Sweetish. Almost all of the fruit is gone.

Pours dark brown, almost black. Medium to moderate somewhat creamy off white head. Strong roasty, toffee aroma. In taste, alcohol hidden, some toast, follows aroma. Full body, medium carbonation. Present some sweetness. Drinkable, very drinkable for 9% ABV.

One if those beers that makes you wonder why the hell you haven’t been drinking it on a regular basis for years. Classic quad, with dried fruits, caramel, candi sugar, vanilla, and boozy heat all teaming up to create beer nirvana. Probably drank way more than my share of the 750, but oh well. Delicious.

Dark reddish brown beer, aroma of fruit and malt. Flavour is lightly toasty malt, caramel, a little hop, apples. The dry malt lingers into the finish. Just a hi t if boozy warmth and good body to it. Very nice.
