After drinking the OG Cold IPA whilst out at the hop harvest with the Howling Hops gang, we thought we’d transport it back and do our own version together.

What is a Cold IPA?! Well… it’s a little bit of a Lager & IPA hybrid. For ours, we started with a simple malt base using 25% flaked rice, added a good dose of Citra to the whirlpool before fermenting on a Lager Yeast and then hit it with a 14g/l Dry Hop of Citra, Columbus & Mosaic. The result is a super crisp, but deceptively hoppy delight, that also packs a good hit of bitterness. When that sun does come… this is the one!

Can. Just a light haze on this yellowish gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and fairly light, some late developing fine carbonation on the back end. Light smooth malts, a nice light creamy sweetness, not overcooked. Soft pine and soft skunk hops, into a mellow but pleasing lemony citrus. Whisper of tropicals on the light and semi dry finish. A very drinkalble IPA, well integrated and dangerously smashable.

On tap at Taphouse - CPH, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out intense oily hop reins, lots of dank pot-like hops, and a thin, crisp biscuity malt base. Flavour is dank and resinous, with lots of oily resinous hops, plenty of dank, pot-like notes, be a crisp, slightly sweet biscuity malt base. Nicely hopped, essentially a dank, oily, resinous WC IPA. Excellent.

440ml can. Clear yellow hold, white head. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, grape, pine. Taste is fruity, mango, grapefruit, grape, pine, grainy malts, very crisp, clean, dry bitterness. Medium bodied. This definitely feels like a lager-y IPA as opposed to a hoppy lager, and is therefore a great representation of the style. Easily the best I've had.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Clapton Craft. Pours clear yellow with a foamy, white head. Medium sweet flavour, lemony hops, light piney bitterness, pale biscuits. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Clean finish, citrusy hops, a little lemon and white grape. Highly drinkable.

Tap at St Albans beer shop. A almost clear greenish yellow coloured pour with a fading fine white froth. Aroma is clean pale grains, biscuit, floral citrus, white grape, grass, hedgerow hop, green berries. Flavour is composed of crisp light grains, woody citrus, grass, light bark, light chalk. Palate is crisp, light grains, fine carbonation. Drinks pretty good don't it.
