Our new beer release this week is an absolute passion project from our head brewer Mat and a beer he's wanted to make for a very long time.
Wah Donka is a wheat wine, taking its name from the Sherpa term for a red panda (hence the wonderful artwork provided by our designer Tina) and in tribute to the beautiful deep red colour of the beer.

The nose opens up with dark fruits and plums followed by the classic banana notes from the Hefeweizen yeast. The taste brings out further quintessential wheat characteristics of Banana and light spices all wrapped around the beautifully boozy, yet light backbone

Süßer, Beginn, weich getreidig. Spritzig, der hohe Alkoholgehalt macht sich nicht bemerkbar, süffig, hefig. Konstante Aromatik, wobei die Süße schon früh an Intensität verliert. Mittellanger Abgang, gut! 10/9/11/9/12/10

Growler fill from the Low Cost Beer online shop. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of dried fruit, banana, caramel. Taste adds leather and spice, some marmalade. Water, malt, hops, yeast, nothing else. Delicious.

Enjoyable Barley Wine. You have to read the description to fathom the apparently confusing name - looks like neither!

440ml can. Very dark pour almost black with a beige head. Aroma of syrupy malts and dried fruits. Taste is where that Hefeweizen yeast is very prominent, lots of banana easters, dried fruits, very sweet syrupy malts, plum, raisin, boozy finish. Medium body. It's alright, not sure this worked as well as intended though and it's way too sweet even for a barley wine.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 22. Deep brown with off-white beige head. Candy sweet swirls. Mild banana, old plummy hints. Nicely boozy. Good stuff.

Keg at Taphouse, CPH 'Malmo warm up', 18/11/22. Mahogany brown with a good sized lasting beige head. Nose is toffee, booze, nutty, dates, fruit cake mix. Taste comprises dried fruit rinds, spice, dates, toffee, brown sugar melt, kiss of alcohol. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Okay straight up barley wine .., if a little on the basic side and lacking some depth.

Tap@Taphouse, Copenhagen (Malmö warm up 18/11/2022) - dark brown with a thin beige head. Pretty unique here barley wine notes in open with some dried fruit shred, some caramel, toffee, then some hefe wheaty action coming in, sweet finish. Not sure on this.

Ultramørkebrun. Uklar. Middels høyt tett skum med litt farge. Blir film. Aroma av røde plommer. Smaken tørket frukt. Litt sherryaktig. Tørr, forsiktig bitter avslutning.
