Opaque colour, brownish steady head. Chocolate, cream coffee, vanilla, touch of smoke and then alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Cream coffee-cappuchino, roasted malts, some smokeyness and some amount of alcohol in the flavour. Syrup-coffee combo dominates, although it is dryish. Ok.

Stout flavoured with coffee, chocolate and maple syrup, by this Star Wars-themed brewer in Leicestershire. Can bought at BCBF and emptied as a ‘train beer’ on the ride back from Antwerp to Ghent, cheers Steve! Waferthin, open, greyish beige ring of a head on a black beer with somewhat ochre-tinged brownish edges. Aroma of indeed strong black coffee, espresso, burnt toast, salted caramel, unsugared black chocolate, almond, soy sauce, blueberry crumble but not so much maple syrup (oddly, as this tends to be a pronounced flavour). Sweet onset with light umami notes, candied dates and fried black olives, very soft carbonation; oily hazelnutty, caramelly and dark-chocolatey malts, again far less maple syrup sweetness than expected, though this scoundrel does deliver in the coffee element, with a pleasant coffee roastedness and coffee aroma retronasally – though roasted bitterness as such remains altogether mild and gentle. Light peppery hops briefly pierce through a warming, whisky-tinged finish, but everything remains tied together well. Old school bittersweet coffee stout, basically – and a very good one at that.

Pours black, no head. Scent is maple, chocolate, thick. taste is full, chocolate, maple, sweet, bit straight forward. Boozy. OK, but too alcoholic - to an unpleasant level even.

A little cloudy dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, unstable, a little adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of maple syrup, toasted pecan nuts, caramel, some vanilla, oxidized,a bit dusty impression, dried fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of alcohol up front, good roast, pretty bitter, hoppy, dry, alcohol, lots of maple syrup, oxidised, toasted pecans. Aftertaste: bitter, more roast, some alcohol, malty touch, lots of maple syrup.
