At the end of the 1990s, the paths of Armand of Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen and Karel of Geuzestekerij De Cam crossed each other thanks to their love for the finest of beer styles. Since then, that passion has been continued shoulder to shoulder.

On December 16, 2018, twenty years to the day after the very first 3 Fonteinen lambik brew ever, Armand and Karel brewed together again for a long time. The lambics from that day and from the joint brewing moments in the following years were divided over the barrels in Lot and Gooik. Four years later, Karel Goddeau and Michaël Blancquaert selected ten fine lambics from the joint brews from both barrel rooms and bottled a quintessential gueuze – only bottled! – on October 26, 2022, Armand's birth date.

This bottle celebrates the long friendship, the beautiful moments and memories, the wonderful craft, the mutual respect and the steadfast values that Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen and Geuzestekerij De Cam share. Central on the label is the word “Geuze” - once written by Armand - as a connecting factor.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is big earth, peach skin, barn. Taste is peachy again, earthy, barn again, not too dry, lip-smacking. Silky mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Excellent stuff!

Bottle at the Droom. Light gusher took the server by surprise. Hazed glowing gold with a beautifuly thick lasting just off white head. Soft oak with bright fresh fruit. Plenty of funk. Clean and crisp. If ever a beer could be called stylish, this is it. Class.

It is well known that 3 Fonteinen and De Cam shared their passion for lambic and their knowledge of geuze blending already in 1998, resulting in the iconic Millennium Geuze, bottles of which are among the most coveted in the world; we can only be grateful that a quarter of a century later, both companies decided to revisit this idea and create a new collaboration geuze together. Released at Lambic-o-Droom and De Cam last weekend, my review here concerns a relatively young bottle. Very thick and rocky (hard to pour in fact), egg-white, dense and stable, shred-lacing head over a hazy warm and deep orange-glowing golden blonde robe with enthusiastic sparkling. Aroma of unripe peach, dry leather, mandarin (!), old books, haystacks, old wood, red apple, apricot vinegar, dried mushrooms, green pear, purple gooseberry, dry earth, cava, hint of armpit sweat funkiness. Utterly crisp onset, bright as the sun with a wealth of fruit, ranging between mandarin, yellow plum, unripe apricot, gooseberry, green apple and nectarine, sour with a sweetish core and altogether 'mals', with both the stonefruit and the citric note continuing through a yoghurty lactic tartness (in itself also very fruity in this case) piercing efficiently through a soft cereally core dried by woody tannins and champagne-like effervescence. Leathery Brett shows up in the end along with a deep 'old hops' bitterness, but remarkably the bright, radiant, 'happy' fruitiness here remains the dominant factor, keeping this geuze fiercely crisp and refreshing till the very end. This is an absolute beauty of a geuze, a majestic masterpiece showcasing the skills and experience of both master blenders to the fullest - I was truly stunned by the sheer brilliance of its flavours and colourfulness of its fruitiness, to the point where I must conclude that this new collab is among the best geuzes I ever had. I wonder what this will evolve like in future years - but with such a 'flying start', I think it is very reasonable to think that it will become just as legendary as its famed predecessor...

Golden colour with light haze and fluffy head. Strong woody aroma. Well balanced. Nice woody notes but a bit of a sharper zing would be welcome.
