Meaning 'black fig' in Spanish, this is a modern speciality beer with dark grains and dark Munich malt, giving distinctive fig notes. A low profile hops nose, with low esters and a black colour with a very clear appearance. Aged on oak chips, with a high carbonation level will give this a lively palate, fresh yet still smooth and drinkable.

I'm aware that 'negro' is just the Spanish word for black. My understanding is that English speaking folk took the word and used it to mean people of black African decent which over time could be used in a derogatory/racist fashion so is rarely used in the UK now. With that in mind to have the word 'negro' next to a picture of a black woman with a fig shaped head does, although no doubt meant innocently, look very stupid to me. Equally stupid is to have a beer celebrating the Galician black fig which does not have any fig content. With this in mind I'm knocking a point off for basic stupidity. WTF were they thinking with this one? Notes: Pours black with beige head with small beige top. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dry ash, slight yeasty note. Taste follows although it is quite light in body so the ash/roast flavours do not overwhelm. Light fruity tang to it but it does lack some depth. Its ok though

0.33 l can thanks to Višnja 666 who brought it from London, shared with her. Dark brown to black, medium beige head. Aroma is cardboard, roasty, wood, nutty and after awhile light fruity notes. Flavour is wood, roasty, burnt. Dry. Light to medium body. Soft to moderate carbonation. Dry finish, minimal bitterness. Aging might not have gone so well, but stout base is very nice!

330ml can via Beer52: BB 13th January 2024. Poured into a Gordon's thistle shaped glass at home on 18th September 2023 during a tasting session with myself. Lively pour, huge tanned head on a black body. Wishy washy for me, a Stout for sure, but it's not Oak chipped enough for me, maybe some wood like flavours in the chocolate/coffee taste but it lacks oomph and depth. Had a couple of Belgian beers before having this and they knocked socks off it!

Can from Beer 52 – drank at home. Pours almost black with a vigorous but transient beige head (became a lighter tan colour when it settled), and good lacing. The aroma has roasted malts and figs with hints of liquorice. Figs again to the fore in the mouth, plus roasted malts, with bittersweet notes and traces of dark fruits and chocolate. Some woody aging apparent as well. Finish is bittersweet. This is rather nice – though it is a bit of a gimmick.

[33cl can from Beer52, yet another of their inhouse beers.] A cola coloured pour with a thin beige head; the oak barrels are apparent in the aroma; rather thin and sweet in the mouth with some vanilla and chocolate; and a rather syrupy finish. Poor.
