24/4/2019. Draught at the Arcade Tavern, Ipswich - part of the BrewDog tap takeover they'd had during the Easter period. Poured almost black with an average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma of wood, peat, whisky, smoke and dark chocolate. Moderate sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. Rich, peaty, woody, boozy finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle at home, 19/04/19. Rich black with a well presented dirty tan covering that veers edgeward in time. Nose is bitter roast, peated malts, smoke, charr, dark chocolate, Islay barrel. Taste comprises dark malts, medicinal notes, spice, dried fruits, ashen tones, charr, bitter roast, smoke, dark chocolate. Full bodied, fine carbonation, balanced warming alcohol at the curtain call. Solid Islay impy ... good balance to the flavour which isn't as strong as the nose suggests.

On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd - Backlog (11/03/19). Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Crema head. Nose - dark chocolate, roast and then peat over the top of it. Iodine edge. Taste - peat dominating again, though chocolate still managing to poke through. Palate - full bodied, roasty / smoky in texture. Smoky dry finish. Overall - peat whisky overpowers everything in its path rendering it a bit single dimensional.

Sample at Brewdog Tower Hill when I bought a bottle. Full review after the bottle. I love Islay whisky so I am always going to be biased. Huge iodine, seaweed and oak flavour. Lovely. It would probably be best as an after dinner drunk, but let's see what happens with the bottle.
