BA American Strong Ale

A full-flavoured American strong ale, brewed with US hops and lovingly aged in apricot brandy barrels.

Taste: The first sips reveal a soft malt character and a distinct fruitiness with notes of poached pears and dried light stone fruits. The beer becomes more warming and comforting as it warms up, leaving a pleasant aftertaste of cracked walnuts, fig jam and baking spices that linger long after the final sip.

Appearance: Bright chestnut brown with a pillowy beige head.

Nose: Bursting with the inviting and luscious aroma of ripe apricots, complemented by the underlying notes of candied pecans, freshly cut vanilla beans and lightly toasted oak wood.

Malts: Golden promise, Munich light, Golden naked oats, Crystal T50

Hops: Columbus, BRU-1, Pink Boots blend (Loral, Ekuanot and HBC 586)

Bottle (from Alko web). Copper colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is floral, nectary and some mild toasted caramel tones with mild syrup too. Flavour is apricot, some caramel, mild wood and some spiciness along with some slight wooden tones. Alcohol sweetness is also rather evident.

Very dark brown colour with thin soapy head. Aroma has loads of malt and also some sweet caramelised dried fruit. Almost cakey like a fruit cake batter. I can easily picture dried apricots. Sweet taste and super malty. Really full mouthfeel. Slightly warming and boozy.

Bottled 330ml. -at Goblet Zagreb. Dark brown coloured, minimal brownish head that went away immideately, dried fruits and alcohol in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, alcohol, dried fruits and touch of brandy barrel with rather sweet finish.

Almost clear dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, light and mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, no choco or coffee vibes here, just a rich creamy malt base with a nice rich toffee. Nice apricot brandy vibes, not quite as strident as Pohjala's previous Apricot Brandy beer but good. Ripe rich fruity apricot, very mildy boozy. Modest oak induced vanilla. Light smooth finish. First coupla sips, was a little bit disappointed, but I should of had faith. The mighty Pohjala delivered this BA Apricot Brandy nicely.

33cl bottle bought from the brewery's webshop. Pours dark mahogany coloured (close to black), with a quite modest, slightly tanned head. Sweet, liqueur like aroma with apricots, wood and alcohol. Dessert-like, warming and feels quite smooth. Not a favourite from the cellar series, but interesting enough.
