Brimming with rich dried fruit, chocolate and roasty-toasty malt flavours. It takes a lot of malt to make an 8.5% beer, and all that sweetness is carefully tempered with peppery hops and the dry finish from our Yorkshire Square fermentation techniques.

Cask from The Ale House, Chelmsford. Despite its 8.5%, this is not over powering on alcohol. There is vanilla evident and this beer has a very smooth finish. Re-rate: Bottle from The Ale House, Chelmsford. Good aroma of roasted chocolate malt, smooth, medium/full body, soft carbonation, with subtle bitterness to finish.

Pours black with an off-white head.Nose shows sweet chocolate liqueur, port, dark dried fruit and fudge. Very sweet-smelling.Pretty similar flavours; burnt caramelised fruit, port, alcohol. Big vinuous notes override most of the roast. Tastes like grape juice....Under-carbonated.

Bottle, Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Deep dark brown pour with a vague tan head. Nose had dark fruit and something a bit odd and rather uninticing lurking, almost paint like... Sweetish flavour of malts, booze, grain, licorice and dark fruit. Not convicing and a bit average really.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of over ripe fruits, roasted malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, bread, and metal, leading to a dry roasteed finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of maneliquor. Pours a clear dark brown with an orange hue and a beige head. Phenollic aroma, overripe dark fruits - even rotten. Medium body, again rotten fruit, raisins and phenols, some licorice and surprisingly little roast. Ends slightly tart. 030612

Bottle courtesy of Glen ’Imdownthepub’ consumed at mums, Worcester 18.05.12 Thanks Glen! Pours black, pitch black with tan head. Strength is apparent but it is also pleasantly warming. More subtle and less in yer face than many Imperial Stouts. Roasty with chocolate and some late coffee. Very enjoyable. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Clear dark red - amber beer, little pale tan head. Semi dry crispy palate. Tangy dark malt - a little bitter. Bubblegum esters. Dry finish. Okay if a bit clunky.

Bottle at Chriso’s Easter tasting 2012. It pours deep brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is caramel, roasted malt, toffee and Scottish tablet. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, charcoal, chocolate, meaty, wood and brown sugar, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. An all-round good offering from Black Sheep.
