The era of a new king is dawning. Long live King Rufus the barley wine which reigns supreme with an impressive 15.6% ABV. An aficionado beer for the rumbustious, the complex malts and light use of hops imbue this English Barleywine with a bellicosity that borders on belligerent. As you take your first sip, you’ll be greeted by a symphony of malty sweetness, dark fruits, and a subtle hint of alcohol. Warming and supple this big beer fuels your soul for the dark days of winter and leaves you in awe of the king’s dominion. Cheers to the king of barleywines

330ml can bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Fawn-coloured head with fine retention, scattered lacing, and a deep dark brownish body. Rather attractive on the nose with caramel malts and raisin. Mixed and robust taste profile of almond, caramel and dried fruits. Warming, and long-lived finish, not overly sweet. Full bodied. Likeable evening sipper. (Tromsø, 04.04.2024)

Clear copper, white head. Aroma of rosted nuts, dried dark fruits, whisky infused christmas cake. Taste of all of christmas, and then some!

330 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 15.6%. Deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of malts and dark dried fruits, some vinous hints. Flavour with the same elements, also distinct bittering hops. The alcohol is not as dominant as I feared.

Can at home 30/12/2023 Sweet malty aroma and taste, some faint dried fruit and accents of toffee and caramel sweetness, hardly any spice coming in or any complexity or richness here, very warming almost overt boozy into the close. Not doing much for me sadly and I love Lervig.

Pours clear, dark copper. Fairly stable medium small white head. Scent is full, malty, dried fruits, caramell. Still a very crunchy, 'fresh' maltyness. Taste is full, bitter, crunchy maltyness. Alcohol works really well and isn't as extremely high as the true ABV makes one expect. Vanilla, dried fruits, medium thick to thick body and lower carbo. BW done right !
