Newcomer Strata hops are showcased here alongside some good ol’ Mosaic. Strata is really cool. It’s a very weedy hop. Yes, that weed. It reeks of pineapple, lemon & Bonnaroo. We think the guava, tangerine & pine elements of the Mosaic team up perfectly to make this focused, dank, and fruity IPA. This is a West Coast IPA, so that means it’s clear, crisp & resinous. Drink up!

On tap at Oakland CHoP. Aroma is hop forward with lots of orange, guava, passion fruit and tropical citrus. A bit of a dank, pine, resin note. Medium light cracker malt notes and light alcohol notes. Pours a clear, brilliant, gold color with a small, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Flavor is slightly sweet with medium light cracker malt notes. Fairly high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderately high citrus hop notes with grapefruit, tangerine and tropical citrus. Lighter guava and passion fruit notes. Some dank, pine resin that lingers into the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice IPA. Strata works well with the mosaic making for a nice citrus forward hop character with good tropical fruit notes. Somewhat crisp malt profile that makes this fairly easy drinking. --- Beer merged from original tick of Mo’ Strata on 13 May 2020 at 05:41 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7.5. Original review text: Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 04, 2020. Aroma is hop forward with a great profile to it. Loads of passion fruit, mango, guava, strawberry, and tropical citrus with quite a bit of a dank, resin note. Light cracker malt notes and a hint of alcohol. Pours a fairly clear, brilliant gold color with a medium large, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers on the edges. Medium light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with medium light cracker malt notes. Moderate bitterness and light alcohol notes. Rather hop forward with lots of mango, passion fruit, melon, tropical citrus and dank, resin notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a fun beer. The aroma is really unique and special with a great fruitiness to it that's lost a bit in the flavor.

Taster showing medium amber with half a finger of clean white foam.

The nose shows moderately intense notes of pineapple, pine resin, and light pine.

The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied. Pine resin forward with a pine like prickliness and a very mild bitterness on the end.

Super rich, hoppy West Coaster. Big pine and grapefruit. Some peel. Golden pour with pretty good head and lacing. Bitter finish.
