Saturnalia is our interpretation of a Belgian Trappist-style Quad. It is brewed using authentic Belgian Pilsner, Pale ale, Special B, and Cara malts. It is hopped with Loral & Styrian Golding in the boil to balance out the massive malt body. Finally the beer undergoes a warm fermentation using a classic Belgian Trappist yeast strain. Initial release 12/9/22.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to chalice.
Appearance: dark red to dark brown color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: caramel malts, toasted nuts, white pepper, dark fruits, light Belgian sugars, brown sugar, banana, dark bread and light notes of some Belgian yeast
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to spicy to earthy quality; finishes perhaps a touch sweeter than expected with the dark fruits
Texture: medium bodied, leaning towards being a sipper; that "back of the throat" grab like a Belgian quad should be doing - it's a dry pull with some smoothness to it
Overall: yes, this is a Belgian quad brewed by an American brewer! Woop woop, well how about that! And yes sirreee, I would definitely welcome this again!

12 ounce can. Hazy brown pour has reddish highlights. Creamy tan cap. Sweet, earthy malt aroma. Flavor is sweet and yeasty. Notes of dark dried fruits. Figs dates and raisins. Brown sugar and vanilla notes as well. Alcohol hides well. Enjoyable.

Draught @ Dive 96, Manhattan. Clear dark red-copper with a foamy beige head, caramel/dark red fruit aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter caramel taste with dried red fruits flavor, thin body, long medium bitter caramel finish. I had expected a bit more variated flavor, but on the other hand, the coverage of the ABV is quite good.

A retailer in NY provided this beer for me, always pleased to get a quadrupel I have not tried before. A 12 oz can now opened and pouring inside of my Chimay glass. It shows up with a dark cola-colored body finished by a light skim of taupe foam. I can smell the brew from arms length, fairly inviting I believe. Rich, ripe dark fruit, yeast, dark plums and blue sky. I lift the glass and have a drink. Figs, plums, grain, syrup, malt, a bit of hard candy and maybe some hay. Pretty thick, I call it a chewy sensation. More sweet than bitter but both are in decent proportions. A good domestic quad.

12 oz. can. Color is deep muddy river water. Aroma is candi sugar, raisins, Trappist yeast. The flavor starts with Belgian yeast phenols, candi sugar and caramelized sugar and transitions into raisins and red grape. Does get a bit sweet on the finish.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark mahogany with a transient beige head. Aroma of darkish, toffeeish malt with dark fruit and floral hop. Arguably full bodied. Flavor sort of matches the aroma but there's yeast/spice and a banana note as well. Not dry. Earthy/yeast/spice helping with some bitterness. A yummy brew.

Can drunk 1/29/23. Clear maroon-tinged, medium-amber. Beige head slowly to ring. Fruity, richly malted, light pepper. None of the crud (bub gum, clove, banana, white pepper), all of the good (plum, raisin, black pepper, apricot, toffee). Not alcoholic, or at least certainly not hotly so. Richly malted, great attenuation. Delicate plum, prune, date, vanilla and toffee. Simple but so well done. Well-aged and not a gross, hot-fermented mess.
