I really like imperial porters. Not a fan of smoked beers, let us see how this shakes out. 500 ml bottle from a NY retailer. Lift the cap and pour into a tulip glass. I see a really dark brown body with some golden highlights around the edges. I smell ash and that is pretty much it. A drinks sees the smoke receding significantly although it’s still there, also chocolate, prunes, grain and plenty of malt. Firestone Walker brews some really great beers. This one is just okay.

Bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market. 2022 version. Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of treacle toffee, smoke, dark chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, peat. Flavours of dark chocolate, charred wood, bourbon, treacle toffee, coffee, nuts. Oodles of alcohol heat. Rich & vinous. A noble brew.

Bottle. 11.5%. Pours a dark brown hue with a small dissipating beige head. A big bready, woody nose, gingerbread cookies. Sweet, but the two years of age has mellowed it. More gingerbread, toffee, chocolate. Very smooth. Light char. Quite low carb, reminds me of a HOTD.

Thanks ClarkVV on the 500 ml bottle share, much thanks! Aroma shows chocolate, ash, and leather. Flavor is soft smoked malts, charred wood, shoe leather, and old chocolate. Body and texture are decent.

Bottle (2022 vintage) shared by ClarkVV--thanks, Clark! Opaque dark brown--virtually black--with ring of head and no lacing. Aroma is peaty, oaky, earthy roast. Taste is strong peaty malt, oak, vanilla. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Well made but don't love the peaty, oaky flavor. Wish there was more bourbon.

2022 bottle drunk 11/23/24. Dark, clear. Small, light tan head. Not hugely aromatic and not smokey. Yeasty mineral, chalk, plaster, maybe a hint of metal. No booze, no sweetness, no barrel. Peppery, soft, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. Kind of a lighter body than you'd want for this abv. Zero sweetness, not a ton of malt depth. Spicy, peppery bourbon also no richness or depth. They did an excellent job of creating no depth or body or richness.
Thanks Clark, smoky, roasty, bourbon.

Bottle at home, with Joe. Pours deep brown, nose is roasted, smoky, vanilla, chocolate, taste is similar, a dry finish.
