Põhjala is one of those breweries where we asked ourselves, “Why haven’t we done a collaboration with these guys in all these years?” After a first meeting in 2023 at their festival,

the idea for a solid barleywine was born. A completely different way of how we wanted to brew this beer was chosen. Due to the immense amounts of malt, we had to double mash and after
the first yeast starter there was no way out.

By using Munich malt as the base along with Carared, Cara160 and Dark Crystal,
this Barleywine has a layered sweetness throughout the entire beer. Due to the high sugar content the beer ended up with a thick mouthfeel but still drinkable, just the way we like our Barleywines.

To bring it all together, we added a touch of salt and caramel to take “No Way Out” to the next level.

330 ml can. Pours a very dark reddish brown with moderate head and lots of floaters. Aromas of dry caramel, minerals, raisins, and toasted malts with slight salty vegetal notes. Flavors of dry caramel, lots of sea salt, dark fruit and toasted malts. Dry.

Can. Just a light haze on this deep amber - brown beer, nice tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation on the back end. Smooth malts, a decent creamy sweetness. Abundant salted caramel. A little fruity caramel before a light and semi dry finish. A decent pastry barleywine. It's not about a mature layered barleywine with salted caramel though. It's a strong salted caramel beer that best fits in the barleywine category and, that's its main flaw for me.
