This year’s Vintage Ale is the 21st edition of our limited edition brew and, like any great 21st, we’ve celebrated in style. The 2017 recipe has been created by our new Head Brewer, Georgina Young, and, in the spirit of all things new, uses a malt and hop combination never seen before in a Fuller’s beer.

The Denali hop has a big, inviting aroma that imparts pineapple, citrus and pine notes – perfect for bringing a tropical touch to the Vintage Ale series. It’s been used here both late in the boil and for dry hopping, dovetailing with classic British hop varieties Target and Goldings.

We’ve also used a new malting barley this year – a British variety called Laureate. New varieties don’t come along very often, so we thought it fitting to use one this year alongside our new American hop.

As with every Vintage Ale, it’s a special beer inside and out, perfect as a gift or to add to your collection.

From a 500ml bottle on 5/10/2022 (bottle no. 05104). Pours a cloudy light amber with a smallish head. Smells strongly of caramel, spice and Christmas cake. The taste is complex with caramel, toffee, bread, brown sugar, citrus peel, raisins and Christmas cake again. Finishes with a pleasant light spicy bitterness. Silky, slightly syrupy mouthfeel with softish carbonation. A lovely malt driven ale.

(Bottle) Reddish amber colour with frothy, tan head. Malty, fruity nose with orange marmalade, caramel, dried fruit, Christmas fruit cake, honey, spices and clover. Malty, slightly fruity taste with notes of apricot marmalade, caramel, dried fruit, orange peel, honey, spices and a balanced citric/spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. Solid, tasty, warming and well balanced. Very nice.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Waitrose. Pours deep amber, lightly unclear, with a foamy, light tan head. Medium sweet flavour, meaty, some toasted malts, semi-ripe dark fruits, raisins, plum, toasted toffee. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish, some leathery berries, toasted grains, bread, dry caramel. Very tasty overall.

500ml bottle. Clear dark ruby brown, beige head. Aroma of fruit cake, toffee, raisins, dates, old hops. Taste is sweet and rich, fruit cake, raisins, dates, toffee, old hops, brown sugar, booze. Medium bodied. At 8.5% it's the same strength as a typical DIPA yet this feels significantly stronger.

Flaska från SB. Bärnstensfärgad vätska med lågt krämigt skum. Lite murrigare smakbild än vanligt, torkad frukt, marmelad, lätt dammig. Men fortfarande gott

500ml bottle bought at Waitrose Sheffield in December 2017 - First beer of 2021. Dark copper body, slightly hazy, off white head. Nose is toffee, prunes, dates and dark Christmas Cake fruits. Taste is sweetish, with the caramel hitting first. Very malty, decent finish. Matured well, will leave 2018's a few years longer see how that goes.
