Wassail is brewed from a delicious blend of the finest malts and hops. A strong chestnut ruby premium ale with an oaky aroma containing sherry and mature fruit. The flavour is warming, fruity and strong. Best poured in one careful movement leaving the sediment in the bottle. Contains barley. Made in the UK exclusively for English Heritage.
Wassail is an ale-based drink seasoned with spices and honey. It was served from huge bowls, often made of silver or pewter. The Wassail bowl would be passed around with the greeting, "Wassail". Wassail gets its name from the Old English term "waes hael", meaning "be well". It was a Saxon custom that, at the start of each year, the lord of the manor would shout "'waes hael". The assembled crowd would reply "drink hael", meaning "drink and be healthy".

500 ml bottle, from English Heritage Shop. ABV is 6%. Slightly hazy reddish brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma of ripe and over-ripe red and dark fruits / berries, notes of jam, also malty notes with a hint of caramel. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is a rich blend of malts and fruits, with the same elements as in the aroma. Hints of spices and oak. Not too sweet, moderate hops tingling on the tongue.
