Everyone loves a good farm tale these days. Urban farms. Ant farms. Biggest little farms. Orwell’s classic Animal Farm. The word alone – come on, say it: farm! – makes people happy. We cooked up this funky, untamed Finnish sahti to show we too are in the farm game. A classic Northern European farmhouse ale that goes heavy on the wild yeast and pale juniper berry and light on the hops. A courageous, fatalistic Baltic Sea ballbuster brewed for men with elaborate facial hair.

Pours unclear, warm orangeblonde. Small white head. Scent is surprisingly mild, some funky notes, raw, toothpaste (?). Taste is surprisingly standard in terms of mouthfeel and carbo. Malty, not as unique and raw as traditional sahtis, this is more like a sahti idea planted on a blonde ale / less hopped IPA base. Estery, some juniper berries for sure. All in a very drinkable totallity. The juniper berries remain quite present in the aftertaste. Not bad , but i expected it to be less good - more sahti like , rather than this more 'generic' beer i might prefer tastewise, but doesnt deliver the specificallity i had expected.

Tap at Mingle Mush. Clear deep golden. Sweet malts, juniper, caramel, spruce, apricot, peach. Quite sweet and medium bitter. Over medium body. Not badz not great.

Keg at 'If It Ain't Dutch', Enid Street, 27/11/24. Clear golden to light amber topped with a good sized just off white head. Nose is herb, straw, stewed fruits, berry skins, grass. Taste comprises bitter sweet fruit esters, spice, herb, hedgerow, grains, hint of vanilla. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough drop.

Keg at If It Ain't Dutch. Clear gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, a thin sweetness. Good crisp cooling pine into a slightly candyish floral fruitiness, well rounded. A crisp finish. An entertaining brew.

Can drunk after a home grilled burger, reading Best Served Cold and wincing over the scenes of Cardotti's Pleasure House. Orange amber with light haze and small head. Nose of caramel and Christmas trees, sugar-dipped evergreen needles. The flavor is better than that sounds; a touch of maltiness riding a wave of citrus and gin-like herbs. Pretty good with a nice moderate herbal bitterness to tame the caramel.
