Draft at Taplokaal Gist, Utrecht. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting, frothy, off-white head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth, somewhat rich, roasty, chocolate, vanilla, liquorice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

33cl Blik van De Bierkoning. Donkerbruine kleur, beige kraag. Geur is top, Haagse Hopjes, caramel, hazelnoot, chocolade, licht grassig en hoppig, harsig, smaak is minder zoet dan verwacht, noten, Haagse Hopjes, hars, gedroogd donker fruit, bittere finish. Medium body. Deed me denken aan Great Divide Hibernation Ale, en die vind ik erg lekker.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 16 Feb 2024) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasty nose with caramel, chocolate and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, bread and a balanced herbal bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Rich, mellow, rounded and harmonious. Very nice.

0.33 l can from 'Mr. Hop', canned in January 2024. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and moderately fruity aroma of caramel, toasted nuts, vanilla and some orange. Rather sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently fruity and a bit roasty taste of caramel, chocolate, toasted nuts, some vanilla, light orange and hints of ash, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good for the style, great balance between nutty sweetness, roast and bitter hops.
