Cask ale at Barrel Vault, half pint shared with Finn. Wetherspoon Beer Festival, March 24. Upper part lacing from a film-type layer, clear warm golden body. Moderate smell of herbal hops and earthy malts. Blended taste of oily hops, biscuit, and mid-sweet malts. Dryng close with a bittersweet bite. Decent. (London, 16.03.2024).

Cask at the Shakespeare's Head Spoons. Clear gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, airy and a little soft, modest fine carbonation. Soft malts, smooth and sweet enough. Hops bring a light and smooth pine. Soft dark berries betray the presence of Bramling Cross. A very mild herbal bitterness into a touch of floral citrus on the end. A fairly tasty affair, good old Bramling!

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] An amber pour with a tight cream head; weak grainy aroma; quite syrupy in the mouth with a grainy body and an insistent bitterness. A rather one dimensional malty bitter.

Third of a pint, hand-pulled in my local Spoons on 10th March 2024. Golden/amber body, white crown. Semi-sweet malty front, toffee/caramel flavours, some light citrusy hop action later.

Cask at the moon under water Watford Jdw. A clear orange amber coloured pour with a a lasting cream speckled head. Aroma is quite neutral, biscuit, light grass. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty biscuit malts, light toast, cut grass, hedgerow hop, firm bitterness. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, decent cask condition. Ok.

On cask. Appearance - deep amber. White head. Nose - caramel, toffee, blackberry and molasses. Taste - sweet caramel and toffee mainly. Palate - medium bodied, sweet middle and finish. Overall - a solid citizen if not quite on style.

Cask at the Sir John Moore, Glasgow. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas of light caramel, hedgerow fruits. Taste is more of the same. Not very forthcoming. Clean finish.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours a hazy chestnut with minimal off-white head and good lacing. There’s malts and nuts in the aroma. Malts again in the mouth where it has a creamy texture and flavour of biscuits and oranges, Later on there are hints of toffee and spices and it becomes quite bitter leading to a dry and spicy finish, This is reasonable – but not particularly memorable.
