Double Mashed with combination of six malts, plus Muscavado Sugar - because what’s a cup of tea without sugar? - and boiled for an extended period to enhance caramelisation.
Boiled, stirred, and teaspoon gently tapped on the corner of the vessel, we transferred our brew to Red Wine barrels for a total of 22 months - steeping with bergamot and tea leaves to welcome it from its extended sleep, maturing to 11.5% in the process.
The fruit and tea lends a gentle tart and tannic contrast, plus a clean acidity on the finish following notes of black treacle, herbaceous sarsaparilla, toasted oak, and red berries.
Additions: Bergamot & Tea

330ml bottle kindly shared by Finn. Tan-coloured head diminishing over a deep black body, dotted spots on the glass. Aromas of caramel malts and berry skins. Well mixed taste character with dark berries, caramel malts, and dark fruits. Roasted malt-berry-fruit ending. Vinous impression. Full bodied, likeable, rather sweet, sipper. (Tromsø, 04.11.2023).

Opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived tan head. Smooth palate, quite light for the abv, decent fine carbonation. Smooth and mellow dark malts, nice soft dark malt cream. A touche of soft dark chocolate and even softer coffee. Rich and luxurious red wine, getting port wine like, juicy ripe and slightly but pleasingly boozy berries. Well integrated and subtle barrel induced vanilla. The earl grey really is a left field addition but it works beautifully adding that mild spice, black tea and a touch of lemony citrus. Finishes smooth with all these flavours coming together in to a harmonious whole. Really very well thought out and delivered with assurety. Super duper!

Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is lemon, tea, meaty, soy sauce, chocolate, toffee, red grape, taste is similar, chewy, zesty fruit. Quite a lot going on here. --- Beer merged from original tick of Earl Grey Imperial Stout on 02 Feb 2023 at 17:57 - Score: 9
