Our first Baltic Porter, brewed with a rich malt base featuring caramel, Vienna, Munich and Carafa Special malts. We used WLP833 for fermentation and 6 weeks of lagering, and the resulting beer was brightened up with a very light dry hop of Ekuanot.

Can. Brownish black colour with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is chocolaty, some toasted malts, mild herbs and some slight biscuity tones too. Flavour is chocolate, some herbs, mild toasted tones with some nutty elements too with some slight floral and fruity tones to it. Actually feels a bit thin for being 7.2 % abc.

Coffee and roast. Black pour with good head and lacing. A little too much caramel. Light tang. Tap at Salt House.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from online. Pours deep brown with a modest, foamy beige head. Nicely rounded character, albeit fairly straightforward, with notes of well toasted biscuits, chocolate, mild roasted malts, soft bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Well balanced finish, nips of alcohol warmth, more rounded chocolate character, well toasted biscuits, mellow earthy bitterness. Very drinkable.

Can at home from the online store. This one has been sat at the back of the fridge for ages. A clear cola, nut brown coloured pour with a lively rocky mid tan head. Aroma is earthy brown malts, brown bread, hints of smoke, charcoal. Flavour is composed of earthy cocoa, earth, pinch of salt, brown roast, burnt brown bread, Palate is airy gassy carbonation, light chalk, dusty. Ok. Lingering smoked earth.

(Draught at King's Arms, Bethnal Green, London, 25 May 2018) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, cacao and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and a balanced coffee bitterness. More than medium body, with a slight sweetness. Solid and well balanced porter. Nice one.

Intense hoppy notes. A wonderful example, but maybe a tad sweet. Nice. Thanks Colin!

Keg at Understudy. Pours black with a thin off white head. Aroma is a little funk, treacle, molasses and cocoa. Taste is a chocolate, molasses and slight coffee hit, a little black treacle and a boozy burn that quickly mellows. Nice

Can 440ml (BGonzo, BB 300618)
Dark brown colour, medium-sized beige head. Toasted, chocolaty but has very light tart vibe lurking. Medium-bodied. Chocolate, grass, cacao in the flavour. Bock character. A bit of meh and doesn't taste any typical Eastern European Baltic Porter but more like unfruity brown ale. Perhaps can has also seen its best days.
