Flip-top 500ml bottle: opened 7 days after it’s BBD. Drank at home from a Wolnzacher Brauhaus tall half-litre glass tankard. Brown body with a red hue when held up to the light, mini-haze to the brew, on top a full and deep off-white blanket of bubbles which stayed the distance as the beer level sank. Slightly sour feel to the nose and taste, a bit off putting at first. Malty, grainy and yeasty aroma (and sourness) with the same esters in the flavouring. The beer grew on me as I progressed with the tasting, the initial off-putting sourness getting less and less important if not less in the senses. Herbal and spicy notes came into play as the beer warmed a little and the wheat element could clearly be detected later on. Nice refreshing bite to the beer, this is not like most in the style I have come across insomuch as it has no vanilla or banana hints within it’s make-up at all. OK and different, but the sourness at the start nearly ruined the tasting for me. Still think I might be spending some time on the loo tomorrow!

500 mml bottle tasted on the Mulheim an de Ruhr bierborse (12/07/2014). Dark brown colour with a foamy white head. Aroma of wheats, malts and banana. Taste is roasted malts, bananas and cereals with presence of high carbonation. Sweet and dry aftertaste. Not the best Dunkelweizen but not so bad. Next one please!

I’m rather surprised at the low ratings on this, I’m really enjoying this one. Pours reddish brown with thick fluffy head, active carbonation keeps the head in place. Aroma of roast grains, toast, pumpernickel. Taste is smooth, milldy bitter, more pumpernickel and prunes. Usual weizen notes of banana and bubblegum in there too. Easy to drink, almost gone before the review is finished.
