Boogie Monster emerged as an early double IPA in our line up, and as a foil to our beloved Witchshark. Characterized by haze, soft body, and berry/grape notes (as opposed to Witchshark's pine/citrus), it's a great option for those seeking hop variety or rare beasts.
What it smells and tastes like: Hazy from our intense hopping rate and fruity as ever, with notes of green grape, fuzzy peaches, and blueberry. Scarily drinkable.

Bottle: Poured a bright amber color ale with a large foamy head with good carbonation. Aroma of juicy floral green hops with loads of citrus notes and some piney notes also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by loads of fresh juicy citrus notes with some piney notes also noticeable. Bitterness is kept at a minimal level and the malt presence is discreet. Body is full enough for style with good carbonation. Super fresh and super enjoyable IIPA form Bellwoods.

A lightly hazed golden DIPA with a thin white head. In aroma, beautiful sweet fruity malt with loads of citrusy hops, light Brett, lemon pulp and floral hops, grapefruit, beautiful. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with smooth citrusy floral hops, light citrus pulp, kiwi, leechee, catty hops, pleasant and dry. Bottle at 2014 Ottawa Xmas gathering.

500mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney and floral hops, with dry biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with strong piney and floral hops, crisp crackery malt, and some light grassiness from what tastes like pils malt. A little mineraly on the finish which detracts a bit. Very dry, hoppy and crisp, with a good balance, but again with the mineral quality. Good stuff, but not quite up to usual Bellwoods standard.

Bottle from the brewery. Pale clear amber with a one finger white head that fades slowly and leaves a bit of lace. Nose has lots of tropical fruit, pine and resin. Lightly sweet fruity start quickly surpassed by grapefruit and pine bitterness in the middle and a definite catty character in the finish. Mouth is medium full and sticky with average carbonation. I will have to compare side by side with Witchshark to figure out which I prefer.

This IPA poured a cloudy amber colour with a big, frothy, off white head. Scents include citrus hops, with a little spruce and grass and a little coriander. First swig was quite hoppy with flavours of citrus hops, pineapple, orange and apple. Additional flavours of cherry Ha;;s and cherries in general also noticeable. Finish is medium bitter with citrus hop flavours lingering.

(Bottle from brewpub, 1 day post-bottling) Pours almost clear medium orange with an average white head, no lace. Aroma is huge tropical fruit cocktail (mango for sure, pineapple at times, rest is a blur), little bit of citrus pith, slight caramel malt sweetness, alcohol as it warms. Flavour initially sweet and fruity, crystal malts with mango and other tropical fruit in abundance, slight dank ‘greenness’ but fruit really predominates here. Mid-palate on there’s a citrus rind/pith bitterness that becomes apparent, lightly resinous, sweetness from the malts lingers, detectable alcohol. Finish is fairly dry, hop bitterness still fairly restrained for the style, heat from the alcohol does a bunch of the dry-down. Mouthfeel medium, carb soft, booze not really hiding (but at 10%, not unexpected). This is so fresh that it’s bursting with fruity hops and the sweet malt supports that. As the hops fade, it might become to sweet and boozy without more bitterness but it is a grand fruit bomb right now.
