Stone Cali-Belgique IPA features a complex and surprising combination of flavors, but behind the fancy title is the simply delicious Stone IPA. The addition of a carefully selected strain of Belgian yeast adds banana and spice notes to the hoppy brightness of our flagship IPA. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.
This beer was created in 2008 when we used Stone IPA as the propagation wort for fermenting our Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale. We liked what the Belgian yeast flavors added to Stone IPA, so we kept brewing it and eventually released it as one of our year-round beers.

Tap at Dig. Aroma is light tropical fruit, lots of citrus and a bit of Belgian yeastiness. Taste is boozy, fruity, Belgian. Good for me.

10-07-19 // 330ml can brewed in Berlin. BBD 02 July 2017. Stored at room temperature. Nose is minimal oxidized sweetish. Taste is a bit flat. IPA body and yes a belgian yeast twist. Old flat hops in the end with a slight bitterness. Leaving a bready, light yeast fruity, minimal bitter finish. Unbalanced of course now.

Bottle upon debut.
Pours a clear, brass-golden with a small white head showing moderately-low retention.
Fruity yeast with plentiful ester is a bit crude, a la Stone's Belgian beers. Hops are a bit brutish and piney-grapefruit-laden, a la Stone's beers. Not horribly offensive, but this is a difficult style to pull of to begin with, much less when you overhop the shit out of everything and your Belgian yeast is rather crudely American.
In the mouth it's fairly dry at least, though with much less soft a texture than it could use to counteract the grapefruit and moderate pine. Fruitiness is rather insipid and light bubble gum and clove linger lightly amidst the strong hop character. Somewhat fizzy carbonation but no alcohol noted.

Nice mix of yeasty Belgian Blonde and IPA notes. Very good beer, but very in your face.

Birthday can from Dranken Geers, Oostakker; thanks to Anke & family!
Best before: August 2017.
Pours clear Tripel-like golden with a frothy, collapsing, white head. The aroma contains yeast, flowery hops, spices, banana (even some faint, undisturbing and hardly artificial bubblegum), mango, grapefruit and passionfruit. It tastes light fruity & malty sweet (more banana) and medium to heavy hoppy bitter; dry, hoppy, bit yeasty finish. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy to soft carbonation. Great cross-over!

Appearance is cloudy golden, with a 1-2 finger pure white head. Aroma- Belgian yeast, spices, banana, orange peel, grapefruit, malty hints. Taste- hops, spicy notes, orange, hints of grapefruit and pineapple, bitter hop resin, bready malt undertones. Smooth mouthfeel, bitter at the end. Good stuff.
