Pours a very dark brown body and a small beige head that doesn't last long. Aroma's: a bit weird herbal, rye, light fruit, alcohol. Retronasal it's sweetish, (rye) bready, fruity. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to fulltime bodied. Warming alcohol. Long finish with increasing bitterness.

(Draught at De Kromme Haring, Utrecht, 18 July 2024) Dark reddish brown colour with dense, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, brown sugar, dried fruit, raisins and prunes. Malty, vinous taste with notes of caramel, dark bread, brown sugar, raisins and a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, with a certain sweetness. A bit vinous and boozy, but tasty and fairly well balanced. Nice one.

I got a 33 cl can of Panharing from Smaakhuis earlier this year. Using a trappist glass, I make the pour. Dark brown body with amber highlights and a consistent skim of very fine, taupe bubbles. The scent is a classic quadrupel scent with dark fruit, yeast, grain and raisins. The glass is lifted for a drink. To come out of a can, I have to say this is a surprisingly good quad. Figs, leather, plenty of maltiness, black raisins, a bit of chocolate, yeast and toffee. Full in sensation. A nice beer in my favorite style.

Can. Color: Very dark red copper, light brown head. Aroma: Malty, caramel, cocoa. Taste: Caramel malt, dark chocolate, boozy, hints of figs and notes of raisins. Yeasty notes. Long lasting finish with warming mouthfeel. Just over medium body, just below average carbonation. Moderate sweet and moderate to over moderate bitterness. Ok.
