Cat Lady is an IPA that was created in response to Roman Candle -- a foil or counterpart to showcase another side of hoppy -- but has developed into its own, autonomous self. The malt bill and resulting colour are relatively light, the bitterness is on the higher end of our hoppy spectrum, the body is dry, and the spotlight on Columbus imparts dank, slightly savoury notes.

What it smells and tastes like: Aromatics of cedar, fresh strawberries and orange peel. Loads of bold grapefruit and crushed pineapple lead into a spicy, resinous finish.

473 ml can. Pours an opaque chalky whitish gold with moderate head. Aromas of melons, celery, pithy citrus and wheaty malts. Flavors of same. An incorrectly labelled Hazy, and poor at that…

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver; 7.1% ABV, packaged Sept 20 22, 1 month ago
Murky pale blond colour. The aroma is moderately dank, followed by some tropical fruit. The mouthfeel is off-dry, but bold, structured; creamy, oaty; good hopping, quite juicy; grapefruit seems to dominate, some dankness.
Very good.

Poured from 473mL can (pkg Sept 20, 2022). Murky yellow with small white head. Mild earthy tropical floral hops. A little bit subdued, a bit lucklustre overall.

Got in a BIF from Coronaeus. 500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours very hazy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger foamy and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Awesome Citra/Columbus profile. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; with a nice clean wheat/oat/malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example as expected.

Don't get a strong cat pee vibe but definitely a little on aftertaste. Like the cat hpuse next to my great grandma's place but from two blocks away. Golden pour with good head and lacing. Light tang on end. Bottle from brewery.
