Part of our Legends series where we take a classic beer style and give it a modern twist. Popobawa is a shapeshifting demon that often takes the form of a bat and hunts at night. This 5.6% red ale has been spiced with cumin, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, chillies and black pepper. Abundant aromatics plus a touch of heat balance perfectly against the rich red malt sweetness.

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Beer Festival 2024. Mildly hazy amber-brown but more of the former. Autumnally spiced brew, slightly earthy with a gentle sensation in the palate.

Clear dark amber with a thin head which soon fizzles away. Spicy/sweet beer with a genuine warmth. Flsvour has a mix of actual heat, sweetness, malt. Like a fairly traditional ale, but with spicy Christmas vibes. I dig it.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden amber with a thin wispy off-white head. Nose - toffee, red fruit and generally bready. Of the spices, cardamom is coming through the most, they are generally subtle. Taste - so chilli up front, then into strawberry jam, followed in with toffee and light breadiness. Palate - medium bodied, a little sweet and rich through middle and finish. Then a very late smoky note. Overall - good.

Keg draught at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Light amber, clear with a small swirl of off-white head and a fair bit of lacing. Malty aroma, gentle resinous notes, getting plenty of white pepper and chili. Sweet taste, spices are subtle among the berry notes but I get a spicy ginger/pepper hit just at the end. Warming and subtle. Spicy finish with a slight body lifted by heavy carbonation. Exceptional.

440ml can from HOTM. Gluten Free. Reddish tinged amber colour, foamy off-white foam head and aroma of malt, spices. Taste is malt, bready, spice, with cardamon, clove, ginger, cinnamon, some warming chilli heat and peppery bitterness. Mediujm bodied, soft carbonation, dry warming spiced finish. Nicely drinkable.
