Draught @ TCBW 2015

Pours dark brown with a smooth head. Aroma of fruits, juicy toffee, caramel, citrus, pine and resin. Taste is smooth, hoppy and slightly roasty with loads of bitterness, some caramel, toffee and resin. Finish is hoppy, slightly roasty and fruity with some bitterness, caramel and toffee. Quite nice, a mix of an amber ale and a black IPA.

Draught @ Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2015
Rather dark appearance. Flavour has resiny tones, fruity hops and vanilla. Flavour has resin, minerals, woody tones and hints of vanilla. A malty IPA this is.

Cask at Craft, 9th March 15. Pours a weak off black colour. Aroma of pine and malts. Taste is citrus and cocoa, some hops. I know it’s a blend, maybe it puts me off, still nice beer, but not as good as either individually

Bottle from eebria. It pours brown with a yellow-white head. The nose is sweet juicy mango, dried apricot, pine, um bungo, toasty, charred wood and earth. The taste is bitter, earthy, pine, resin, pepper, mango, stewed pineapple, charred wood, alcohol and light soap with a lingering bitter-dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. All works rather well. Pretty nice.

A very dark brown beer with a weak and blond head. The nose has great tropical fruits, papaiyas and mangos, some pine needles, hint of roastiness. Tastefull. Taste has pine needles, grapefruits, some tropical fruits, some roastiness in the end. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Good beer where the great Axe Edge is dominating, tropical fruits with hint of dark notes.

330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, chestnut colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Piney, slightly resinous, and herbal hoppy aroma with a nuttily touch. Taste is initially piney, resinous and herbal hoppy, moderately sweet caramel malty middle part with hints of orange, bitter hoppy, minimally mineral finish. As I’ve never mixed a Black & Tan myself, nor had one on tap (least of all the classic Bass & Guinness cocktail), I really appreciate to try a "readymade". I can detect an improvement in scoring of the mix compared to the single ratings (3.4 each). But is this single fact evidence for any kind of corollary? If we mix e.g. equal volumes of water and alcohol, we get less than two times the initial volumes; if we mix poly-isocyanate and polyol we observe an explosively increase of volume. Presumably a Black & Tan functions alike, and only reiterated experiment can show if there’ll be a kind of complementary increase or mutual effacement of flavours. So go for it, if you like, I’d rather vote for a "regular" Black IPA in case of doubt. By the way: I didn’t intend to facilitate any associativity along the line ’readymade - pissoir - Axe Rocks’.

Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield. Very lightly hazy, chestnut brown. Large, foamy, lasting, tan coloured head. Chocolate malt. Orange pith. Light nuttiness. Taste sets off toffee sweet. Then a load of grapefruit juice bitterness. Sweetened grapefruit chewiness on the palate. Some alcohol warmth. Finish retains a sweetness, amongst all the bitterness going on. Very nice.
