Brewed for our one-year anniversary together with all the breweries in Damme, we’re raising a big stink about that other waterway, the Schipdonk canal.
‘Stinker’ is a top fermented beer, brewed very much as a Belgian ale (multi-step mash and bottle conditioned), but using Beechwood Smoked Malt from Weyermann® Malts in Bamberg (35% of the grist bill) to equip it with its subtle smoked bacon aromas and flavours. The cigar on the label is not only a reference to the smokiness of the rauchbier, but as something which is associated with the celebration of a special occasion, like the first birthday of a brewery.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ GBF 2017. Dark brown amber, tanned head. Nose is wet dog, dirty watery, medicinal smoke, smoked wet malts. Taste is band-aid, DE fish guts yeast profile, band-aid, lacking carbonation, wet leaves,… Watery, lacks carbonation. Didn’t appeal to me.

Clear amber to orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: little peated, malty, grains, bit smoky, yeast, little dirty. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, fruity, funky, yeast, caramel, some vanilla. Aftertaste: some citrus, grains, little sweet, slightly peated, fruity, nice stuff!

Draught Good dense head, fast reduced to cream rim and tenacious lace over clear foxy amber beer. Slightly smoked, beechsmoke, "Rauchsalz" (smokesalt), BBQ sauce. Smoked, Rauchmalz, again typically beechwood as used for perfuming BBQ. Sweetness is there, marked, but nowhere imposing. Quite slick, even oily; medium carbonation, medium bodied certainly. Mild, but quite pleasing Rauch. 7/4/7/3/15

Bottle from De Hopduvel. Hazy dark amber/light brown colour. Smokey nose, no peat but typical German smoked malt. Taste is light sweet, light fruitiness along with subtle smoke. Smoke is not too intense. Very drinkable. Good beer.
