Ken Fisher is an intriguing character from Portland (Oregon) whose passion for beer has driven him to travel the world in search of brewers interested in brewing beers conceived by him. In Lambrate, he discovered our shared love of hops but also had to deal with our passion for very hot chili peppers! In fact, the Grateful Deaf is the result of a blend of dark, caramellised malt, rye, five varieties of American hops and a generous dose of Habanero! Ken chose the name Grateful Deaf as he himself is deaf and he wanted to create a play on words with the name of legendary US rock band the Grateful Deaf, as well as with the name of a character forming part of British pop culture.

Dec. ’16. On tap at 4:20, with Roman ratebeer crew. It poured a hazy brown body with medium sized head. Aroma of coffee and cocoa with zesty orange/pineapple hops. Flavor was lightly bitter with orange, pine and herbs, while malt was roasted in whole its palette from coffee, to dark chocolate, extending to sweeter side with cappuccino and toffee. Spiced as well, some peppers and black pepper. Medium to full bodied with a long finish, where dry herbal hoppy notes were even more pronounced with strong black pepper presence. Well done! Very nice and interesting brew.

Draft at the Pub/restaurant. Very slow pour. Almost black color, massive beige ice cream cone head. Subtle chili aroma with burnt espresso. Chili is more evident in the taste, on a background of earthy coffee and dark chocolate, light pine. Very tasty.

On tap @Brasserie 4:20 (Rome). Bel corpo, setosa, carbonazione medio-leggera. Buona.

Tap @4:20 Rome-Italy. Black coffee pour, lively brownish foam. Nose is roast, Lambrate distinctive notes of smokiness and some grass. Mouth is just great, clean riastiness with the chili plus. Wow

On tap at Koht, Tallinn. Pours dark mahogany with a modest, beige head. Roasty aroma dominated by chilli, some dark fruits, rye bread and hints of caramel and citrus. Medium sweet with delicious, warming chilli burn and a nice bitterness. Starts fairly mild, but adding up. Nice one!

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como
Dark brown color, beige head. Notes of dark malts and tobacco, with a lingering fruity touch. Good body, the mouthfeel is on the dry side, nice flavor of roasted malts, with grace, and a tickling pepper feeling. Balanced and with many interesting facets.
Excellent.
